Wilson Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 My 10' jon boat is a nalco...they never installed a drain plug when it was made. I was wondering if it is possiably to install one without wrecking anything...me and my dad can do it just want to make sure we aren't screwing anything up...and if you can what should I use to make it like supplies, adn where should I get them hardware store or like bass pro? Super User Raul Posted June 2, 2008 Super User Posted June 2, 2008 Never mind, I found it. Not trying to be a smartarse here but why you want to install a drain plug when all you need to do to get rid of the water is to flip the boat ? Quote
Wilson Posted June 2, 2008 Author Posted June 2, 2008 because I have seats in it and other equipmet. so it could break a lot of things. Quote
_tyler_wright_ Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 Just go buy an Attwood bilge pump for like 18 dollars at wal mart. You might mess up something wnenever you try to cut a hole in the transom. Quote
Wilson Posted June 3, 2008 Author Posted June 3, 2008 thats what i was thinking about but never know so i threw out the question this site is awsome and I told 3 people out on the water about it on the weekend and they got their buddies to join to so it must me good or they wouldn't have told their buddies:P Quote
SnowBass23 Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 I would agree and just recommend getting a small bilge pump. If there is too little water for the pump to pick up you can always use a tube to syphon it out (like an aquarium) or just use a dry cloth, soak it up, wring it out, soak it up again. That works pretty well. A little tip I learned from a buddy (everyone else may already know it, but as I'm new to boats it impressed me): with bigger bass rigs, when you have water sitting in the bottom of the boat near the drain hole, but not enough to get sucked out by the bilge, use a hand towel. Take one end of the towel and poke it through the drain hole (from the outside) so that the majority of the towel is hanging beneath the boat and the portion inside the boat is in the puddle of water. The towel will soak all the water out of the boat, and gravity pulls the water through and down the towel under the boat. I tried it thinking it would never work and it was only a mouthful of water anyway. I cam back 20 minutes later to see a big puddle under the boat and no more inside! Quote
Cory20 Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Depending on how much you're leaking, a bilge buddy hand pump might save you a few $ $ $. They can move a good amount of water too. Quote
Super User Raul Posted June 3, 2008 Super User Posted June 3, 2008 A sponge sucks a lot more water than any hand towel. Quote
