Super User Koz Posted April 24, 2019 Super User Posted April 24, 2019 I'm signing a new job offer letter in the morning and will be moving to the Greenville/ Spartanburg SC area and was wondering about bank fishing. Yes, Hartwell and Keowee are in the area but I don't have (nor do I want) a boat and my car is not suitable for transporting a kayak. I was wondering if anyone knows where there are some good bass fishing ponds anywhere in the area where I can bank fish. I'll be working in Duncan, but I haven't picked a place to live yet. I'm planning on grabbing an apartment for a year before I decide to buy. I figured if there was an area with a decent amount of bass ponds I could start looking there first. Boy, I'm going to miss the fishing where I live now. There are literally thousands of lagoons to choose from and plenty of big bass. Quote
JS Patterson Posted April 25, 2019 Posted April 25, 2019 There are several good small bodies of water to fish in the area. Honestly, the fishing in these ponds is better from a kayak but bank access is possible. I fish one of the two reservoirs in Greer almost every day, but since I live at Robinson it is very convenient to fish even for 30 minutes. They would be about 15 to 30 minutes from Duncan depending on which side and what time of day. 1 Quote

I need to grab an apartment for a while when I first get there and I saw Lofts By The Lake which is right on Apalachee. If you have fished there, are there any big bass, say 5 pounds and up? I admit I'm kind of spoiled where I currently live and fish because just about everything we catch is 2.5# and up. Quote
JS Patterson Posted April 25, 2019 Posted April 25, 2019 Apalachee is for residents only so I haven’t been there. I would think it would be good with bank fishing. I’ve caught 4 over 5 lbs on Cunningham this year but not from the bank. Cunningham is the first impoundment above Apalachee on the same river. 1 Quote

I fished Cunningham for about an hour this evening down at the fishing pier. Tons of lily pads but I didn't see even bait fish let alone bass. I brought only my MH rod with 30 pound braid today so I didn't fish deep in the lily pads. I'll bring a heavy rod with 50 or 60 pound braid next time and fish a frog or punch a jig. I talked to a teenage kid there and he said all he has caught is one and two pounders, but he could be a lousy angler. In the next few weeks I'm going to try Lake Robinson and rent a kayak for the day. Quote
curtis9 Posted July 18, 2019 Posted July 18, 2019 Since you're in Duncan, Berry's pond is close. I've never fished from the bank there, but the lake has a lot of good fish. You have to pay to fish off the bank there at the tackle shop, but they just built a free kayak launch next door. If you get a Kayak, you can paddle up the river a ways as well. Quote

The old guy behind the counter was dozing off and his wife was plopped down in a reclining chair right inside the doorway watching Dr. Phil. The place smelled of urinal cakes and death. It was a bit comical. But I bought some trick worms and picked the guys brain when he woke up. I did see that he charged $2 or $3 to bank fish there, but it did not look promising. Maybe I'll give it a try anyway. I have to be out of town this weekend, but in a few weeks I was planning to go to Lake Robinson and rent a kayak for the day. I heard there are some good sized bass in there. Quote
curtis9 Posted July 18, 2019 Posted July 18, 2019 The old guy can't hear that great, so you've got to shout when talking with him. I think the smell is the 1000 flavors of carp bait for sale. I mapped some of the lake and uploaded my countours navionics chartviewer. Lake Bowen has some good fish, but I'm not that familiar with where the bank access is. I know you can fish at the main landing, but I'm not sure if there is access anywhere else. 1 Quote
