Dwbassin Posted April 23, 2019 Posted April 23, 2019 Yesterday evening I was out and my trolling motor was working great. Halfway through I try to power away and it is going nowhere. Still spins but barely moves my little boat at all. Got a minn Kota Endura 55lb max thrust 12volt. Just wondering if anyone knows what could be going on. Battery was good, and never ran over anything while trolling. Did very slowly bump into a stump but was barely drifting at all Quote
Super User TOXIC Posted April 23, 2019 Super User Posted April 23, 2019 Pull the prop and look for weeds or fishing line. There's only so many things that can bog your TM down. 1. Low battery (you say it's good) 2. Fouled propshaft 3. Water in head unit 4. Bad control board 5. Bent shaft Have you tried it out of the water to see if it increases with the controls? 1 Quote

It does increase with controls, I’m recharging battery to be 100% sure. Gonna get it apart tonight to make sure no waters in it. I was researching (too deep of a dive when I realized I got good people on here) and saw the control board. After work I’ll check it out. Also I did have braided line in before, pulled out a big wad but didn’t take it apart. Hopefully it’s not remnants that shot it and possibly worse 1 Quote
Dwbassin Posted April 25, 2019 Author Posted April 25, 2019 Was filled with Baylor twine and my little shear pin busted at some point I don’t know how it was still spinning but getting a brass 1/8 inch rod and making me some today. She fired away full speed just need that little pin. Gonna check it every time now I get off the Water. Lack of boating experience bit me. Did catch a couple in my kayak though 1 Quote
Super User fishnkamp Posted April 27, 2019 Super User Posted April 27, 2019 I see you are on the Eastern Shore of MD. If you need it there is a MK repair center here on the Western Shore. It is located off Route 83 near the PA line. If you need parts they should have them and be able to ship them to you. look here. https://www.facebook.com/Daves-Minn-Kota-Sales-and-Service-634034259985871/ He was a great help with my trolling motor a few years back. 1 Quote
sully420 Posted April 29, 2019 Posted April 29, 2019 Buy a couple of these shear pins and keep then on the boat. The pins on the 12v tm's break easily. 1 Quote
OnthePotomac Posted May 5, 2019 Posted May 5, 2019 I hear ya. I learned long ago to pull the TM prop during post outing checks. Amazing what you find at times. Although my new 55lb variable speed MG has a far superior shielded prop housing than my old MG 43. That old TM was always loaded with junk. 1 Quote
Dwbassin Posted May 5, 2019 Author Posted May 5, 2019 Ownim having a hard time getting the prop off. Haven’t seen anything in it. Bought 1/8 rod at Home Depot not thinking I need actual shear pins so the motor doesn’t burn. Tried for a good 30 minutes to get the prop off and it comes loose but won’t come off Quote

Yea tried tapping on it, prying it, at this point I don’t know what to do without possibly damaging it. It came off before tapping and pulling and since I put that new pin in it is much more difficult. Made sure it was tooooo tight either Quote
