Ronnieh Posted April 23, 2019 Posted April 23, 2019 Y'all may remember my questions earlier concerning LSC. Well it looks like I will not be taking my boat but, rather will just fish a couple days with a guide. My "friend" that was going with me backed out after I agreed to move the trip to the first week of June to accommodate him. The plan was to take my boat and fish the first day with a guide and the rest of the week out of my boat. So much for friends and their promises. So, my question; how do you think the fishing will be that late? Now I know I can't get a definitive answer because it will depend on the weather for the next month. I plan to fish June 4 and 5 with two different guides. After driving 11 hours each way I sure hope the guides can find fish. So what is your best guess going that late in the year? Quote
Super User MickD Posted April 23, 2019 Super User Posted April 23, 2019 Bass fishing on St Clair can be very good all summer. The catch and keep season doesn't open until June 15, I believe. It's pretty late, anyway. Which means the DNR is trying to avoid anglers keeping spawning fish, so it's that late. The problem in any month is finding them, but if you have a good guide they will find them. If you need a guide recommendation, message me. I know an excellent guide. Not sure how open he is, though. Later in the summer the bass go deep and for me are really hard to find. In early June they shouldn't be that deep yet. That is a good time to go there, IMHO. Quote
Super User TOXIC Posted April 23, 2019 Super User Posted April 23, 2019 You'll do fine with a guide. They should be keyed in on the fish if they are worth their salt. We are going the 18th-25th of May (our annual trip for the last 16 years). We rent a cottage on Harsens Island. I can only hope you booked with Marcel Veenstra and his guide service. Quote
Super User MickD Posted April 23, 2019 Super User Posted April 23, 2019 Since Marcel is excellent, it means there is more than one excellent guide on Lake St Clair. I know of two others not named Marcel. Quote
Super User TOXIC Posted April 23, 2019 Super User Posted April 23, 2019 Oh, I'm sure there are others. In the 16 years we have been going Marcel has been out that entire week as well with clients and they always are doing well. I keep up with him before and after we are there as well. I just know that from personal experience he (and his guides) are some of the best and he is one of the few that I would recommend without hesitation or reservation. Quote
J.Vincent Posted April 23, 2019 Posted April 23, 2019 For many years I fished ABA Michigan Division 9 Tournaments and we did paper tournaments in late May, only a few days before your June 4 and 5 trip. Most of the time in late May the fishing is very good on St Clair and 5 fish would often go between 14-18lbs. But with St Clair what’s amazing are the numbers of Bass that can be caught on a trip. It’s a Smallmouth Factory even when or if you aren’t catching giants. So I would say you will most likely enjoy the fishing . Quote
DubyaDee Posted April 23, 2019 Posted April 23, 2019 I know you'll be fine. Marcell is one of the best out here, but you really don't need the best for pre-spawn on St Clair. Any guide will be able to get you on good fish during that time. I'm sure most of them are filling up fast. Summer and fall are a little more difficult, but not hard. Quote
Ronnieh Posted April 23, 2019 Author Posted April 23, 2019 Guys, thank you so much for the replies, they are very encouraging. If you want to know the guides' names just private message me. I am using two different guides. Again, thanks! Quote
