I just picked up a SLX 6'10" Medium with SLX 150HG reel for jerkbait fishing.  Got it for $125.99 shipped!  Can't beat that deal.  Either a rod or reel for $26...

I believe TacticalBassin recommended this combo for jerkbait fishing.

I have the exact same combo. Can't wait until the Fall jerkbait season starts up :happy-111:.

I just bought a shimano reel, and rod, at full price 100 for each. The reel is a slx 151hg, I'm right handed but I've always fished left... Idk. The rod is a slxcx72mh, I like both the rod and reel very much this is also my first personally bought baitcaster. The reel is amazing honestly, very easy to set up, and it casts extreamly well. I mostly fish for bass, but also fish for crappie, but also do some salt water trout and such... I picked a rod that suited me and my likes. But I'd urge everyone to remember that each slx rod has different specs.... My rod is SLX CX 72 my it's got a extra fast action, but also handles lighter weights well I do a fair amount of throwing soft lures so I needed a rod that would be good for 1/4 oz weights but the other 72" shimanos don't do well with lighter weights.. overall I so far would give the reel a 8 because it doesn't have magnetic drag, and the rod a 10 I love the rod.

My brother recently got into bass fishing and he wanted a rod that would throw both half ounce jigs and frogs on a budget, and I think the SLX combo I recommended him is excellent.

The reel impresses the heck out of me, and the rod is great.

If these SLX combos had been a thing years ago I'd probably have a full lineup of them, but all my stuff says Daiwa or 13 and I'm not much of a mixer and matcher.  If all my rods disappeared today, they'd be replaced by these combos.

The only thing the SLX line doesn't offer is a big cranking stick, and I'm not sure the moderate action heavy wouldn't work for it.

Jam up stuff by Shimano, and I'm glad you guys are all enjoying your combos.

I love the reels, especially the MGL 70 and I've had all of them, but the only rod I would want would probably be the 6'10 Medium. I had the 7'2 MH/XF and 7'5 H/F and they were light, but I hated the balance and a they were a little too stiff for me.

I have the 6'10" Medium SLX rod paired with the SLX MGL 70XG reel that I use mostly for jerkbaits. Very nicely balanced combo that I could fish all day with.

I have the 7’5 medium heavy and it is a fine rod but it’s a bit too heavy and there really is very little flex in the top making accurate casting tricky. I think I’m going to buy a 6,6 or 7 mh rod with a faster tip for more all around purposes and use the slx rod for making long casts with bigger keitechs and hollow belly swimbaits.

I normally buy/use St. Croix rods. But I figured I try out a SLX spinning rod.  I use Shimano reels which I am very satisfied.   Not so my SLXS70MX2 tip broke off after casting for 1/2 hour.    I had 10 lb mono and the lure was a hula-popper.  From  what I read Shimano rod customer service leaves a lot to be desired.

Not from my 20+ years of experience working with them.

I believe Shimano Customer Service is the GOLD STANDARD.

I’d be surprised if that were true.   At least up in Canada their customer service is A+.
