Quick lure change

I’m going to be using owner quick snaps for my cranking setup, but can it be used for every type setup jigging, spinning, top Water etc..? What size owner quick snaps 0 or 1?

Snaps are best used with treble hook baits.  Single hook baits like worms, jigs and even topwater frogs require a strong, fast hookset which snaps are not made for.  With treble hook lures, I use a lighter, side sweep hookset, and crank them in.  I remove the front  split ring and use snaps on all of my crankbaits, jerkbaits, topwaters like poppers or spooks.  Not sure of Owner’s sizes but VMC crankbait snaps run a size 0 for 3/8-5/8 lures, a 1 for up to 1 oz.  Good luck man.

tying a knot doesn't take that long.  I only use snaps on crank baits that i removed the split ring.

I use some generic ebay snaps for everything and have no issues.  I think I use size 1 for all.

0 or 00 is what I use.

 

I use the Evergreen in a 0 and the Decoy round snap/ V snap in 00 and 000

 

000 size for ice fishing 00 for small jerkbaits and 0 for crankbaits.

 

I get them from Japan.

Snaps are great for guys with vision problems (like us old farts) and lazy types.  They are also a prime excuse for lost lures and fish because of knot failure.  I love using them, but still retie frequently.

I use the Owner Hyper Welded 0 size and use them on ANY moving bait. Don't worry if it has a treble hook or single hook and how hard you set the hook. You will NEVER EVER break the snap. I have used them with 65 lb braid on an A rig and got hung up and straightened the hook out and the snap was fine,

When I bank fish, I only bring one rod and I use a snap for all the presentations based on the bank area that dictates the lure. I use a mustad fastach size 1 on that rod and it works well to let me change lures on the fly. I use it for pretty much everything except Texas rigs. But if I want to fish a plastic, I either use a jig, or weighted belly EWG.

Buy one of each and see what works for you. Honestly, I keep both sizes in my box and just grab whatever I find first.

I find snaps very handy for plugs. I don't use them for worm hooks, spinners or plastics. I don't like them in grass either because they tend to grab it.

 

I like them because, as a rookie, when I'm checking new water I can try a bunch of baits quickly. Then if I find something that works I may or may not tie it on from there.

 

Glenn has a video about using snaps which is where I learned it from, or at least was told it's okay to do so. Lately I bring two rods bank fishing - one with a snap and one setup for T-rigging and plastics.

Same here, but I now use a rubber bobber stop (thinnest one available) above the snap (Mustad fastach), and the way the fastach is designed is it rarely catches grass because the wire faces toward the lure. I pond fish a fair amount, and there's lots of algae and this combination comes through it well.

I just started using the Fastach, size 1.   At first I hated them, seemed to take forever to get them on and off when fishing.  So I took a bunch of different type lures and sat on my couch to actually look at what I was doing and figure out the common sense way to use them.  After about 5 minutes of practice they are a breeze and by far the easiest to use as well as secure and strong.

More so out of the knot tied to the fastach. I use a Fish-N-Fool knot mostly, and the tag end sticks away from the lure so it can catch fine pieces of grass. Bobber stop helps reduce it. But nothing will stop hair algae!

I used snaps for crank, jerk, and some top water like whopper ploppers. Haven't tried them for soft plastics like t-rig, jig, or wacky rig. Have thought about it, but worried about snagging up on stuff with the snap in grass or weeds. Soft body frogs I tie on. I haven't been removing the split rings, but it sounds like i should be when using snaps.

Yes, otherwise you're doubling up on loops which could impact the action of the lure. The one caveat for me though is, chatterbaits. I use a snap to the built-in snap on a chatterbait and I feel like it actually helps the blade action get started up faster.

Good to know, I've actually been having a hard time with the chatterbait blade not starting or just stopping on retrieve.

A lot of guys around here have been using Tactical Anglers power clips.

They are super strong and can handle any bass.  They are using them to catch monster snook and redfish at the inlets.
