I'm looking to build a rod specifically for finesse casting with an Shimano Adlebaran BFS XG or Daiwa SS Air.

Have been thinking about a Rod Geeks Carbon 4 6'6" LF or something similar.

Quote

6' 6" | Mono. Line Weight: 4 - 8 lb | Lure Weight: 1/16 - 1/4 oz | Fast Action, Light Power

Is this something that would be completely pointless to put together? Primarily wouldn't be used to target bass, but wouldn't be excluded from bass use either.

I'm planning on building one on a St Croix 4SW70MLF to throw slender pointers and shad raps

Build that rod and I'll bet you find yourself using it fairly often.  Smaller cranks, like squarebills, for bass-it will be very useful.

Those were my thoughts as well. Small cranks for any species that will hit a swimbait.

Have you thought of an XF blank? United Composites makes a dandy 100% graphite, very durable, no scrim blank rated 1/32 to 5/16 oz, 2 - 10 lb line. UC65LXF, dual helix construction, I've used one for close to 20 years, trout to bass, even caught an 8 lb. steelhead on it once on the Umpgua River fishing for smallies, the rod did great. They also make a 7 ft. version.

Have used spinners, night crawlers, finesse worms, up to AC Shiner cranks on it with no problems.

Get Bit among others have them.

That sounds like a very good match to what I'm wanting to do. Currently looking at Get Bit, are there any other dealers that you would recommend to look into?

That blank sounds fantastic.  Great, something else I'll pick up and probably never build!

Angler's Workshop I believe still sells United Composites blanks. The Pioneer series are a little less money, I myself prefer the lighter and more durable dual helix, DHX series.

Ordered two of those UC 70LXF blanks to build into a pair of spinning and casting rods. Will report back on how the casting performance is with very light gear once everything is complete.

Might be a good idea to call UC and check availability of the blank you choose and get a solid commitment on ship date.

Since UC was bought some years ago by the gentleman that ran Seeker before it was sold, people using the rods, or blanks have been pretty happy about their delivery schedules and the quality of the original company is back, I don't think I've had a rod blank that wasn't at the door 3 weeks after ordering. That's pretty normal no matter who you get it from.

By the way if you've liked the Seeker Alabama Rig rods as much I have and noticed the blank isn't listed with the other ReactPro blanks, it's the CSW808 Blue Lightning blank cut, or uncut depending on what length you prefer.

I'm much less worried about delivery time on UC blanks then I am about the NFC blanks I ordered a few weeks ago. I hope to see those blanks by October, whereas the UC blanks should be wrapped and finished by mid-summer.

Sorry, I think I got my companies mixed up.  Sounds like you're way ahead of me.

Two of my three NFC blanks showed up last Friday, both of the UC 70LXF blanks showed up today.

Currently have three spinning rods in the works, once those are completed its time for the United Composites, followed by the North Fork.
