Swimbait hook question

Hey all. I'm in need of a recommendation, please.

 

I have had great success with 4" swimbaits on 3/0 1/8th oz belly weighted screw lock hooks. I do also have some 2.8" and 3" swimbaits where this hook is just too big. What hooks do you guys use for these smaller size swimbaits? Just for grins I have tried 1/0 and 2/0 EWGs with a bullet style weight out front and it doesn't swim correctly. Ideally I'd want to keep the 1/8th oz if there is a smaller hook that would work. Or in this size am I limited to using a regular jig style hook? Thanks.

Owner 1/8 oz  Ultrahead Bullet rig (jig) comes with molded on bullet weigh and 1/0 hook.

I use the Owner keel weighted hooks with the centering pin from 4/0 to 7/0 depending on what I'm throwing.

Gamakatsu makes great belly weighted EWG hooks from 1/0-5/0. 2/0 fit 3-3.5” swim baits well.

Check with Seibert to see if he sells the keel weighted hooks. VMC just came out with a hook that will work for what you want. If Seibert or one of the other sponsors can't make them send me a PM and I could make you some for whatever the parts cost.

@Scuba Steve:  These may be too large but if you go to rapala.com and do a search for DDW it should lead to VMC Drop Dead Weighted hooks. It appears that they may be too large (smallest is 3/0) but I like the position of the weight on the hook and there are weights as low as 1/16 ounce. Might want to take a look. Good luck.

Just buy some DOA pinch weights and use any hook you prefer, can crimp them on and off easily....In a Jam, you could always crush a split shot as well. I have a tough time finding the right size at times as well with right weight on weighted hooks, I like some of them like Gamakatsu etc...But I can never seem to get certain brands to fit or have right weight like VMC and few others. 

 

Mustad has a good weighted hook but the keeper tears the baits, you can switch them out with hitchikers or simple mister twister pins, the weight slides and you can get a 3/0-4/0 that fits 3.8" size swimbaits for most part in 1/16-1/8..

 

Hope that helps. The DOA long Shank EWG lazer sharp hooks are really good for adding the pinch weights, plenty of gap and I like that hook since its saltwater strong, not too thick, plenty of gap, and long neck is great for bigger baits as well like Magnum Flukes. The 5/0 looks much bigger but they come in a bunch of sizes...

Lead tape, apply on any hook you want to use, in the same spot where the weighted hooks put it.

I picked up some 1/24 oz ewg in a 2/0. Seem to be pretty good weight wise for smaller swimbaits and flukes. I would prefer an offset over ewg in this size. I tend to get smaller bass on the small baits and the ewg is too big for good hookups imho.
