xboxfisherman Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 Reently bought my first fishfinder, an eagle cuda 242. Read the book, installed the transducer, mounted the unit. Let the epoxy resin sit, hit the water. Works great I know exactly how deep the water is. Problem I'm not seeing anything else on it. I either have nothing between me and the bottom or I have an almost completly black screen. If I turn the fish ID feature on, most of it goes away. But it displays a thousand fish 4 ft down in the water, just nose to tail all the way across the screen. I've tried turning down the sensitivity, up. I don't get it. It's transom mounted. I need help before i show the depthfinder how close it can get to the bottom of the lake. Thanks. Quote
harshman Posted May 24, 2008 Posted May 24, 2008 could be a bad unit? I have one on my smaller bass boat and it has worked fine since I installed it last year. I am assuming you have tried using it in auto modes with the fish id turned off. If that doesn't work it could just be a bad finder. I'd get a hold of Lowrance and see if they will take care of you. jhoffman Posted May 25, 2008 Posted May 25, 2008 1: How far is the transducer from any prop wash? 2: Does it have a sensitivity setting? I looked at the eagle but for $75 more I decided to buy the Humminbird. Quote
Randall Posted May 26, 2008 Posted May 26, 2008 Fiberglass or aluminum boat? If you epoxy the transducer inside an aluminum boat with that model or probably any model it will not work well. Had a buddy try it after I told him not to and he had problems much like you are having. Its always best to mount the transducer outside the hull. Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted May 26, 2008 Super User Posted May 26, 2008 If it is aluminum mount it outside the boat and away from the prop. Glass boat you can mount either way. do not tie the wires into the trolling motor wires as this will cause interferience when you kick on the TM. Quote
xboxfisherman Posted May 26, 2008 Author Posted May 26, 2008 It's a fiberglass boat and mounted on the transom. The epoxy I was talking about was what I used to seal the mounting holes. Hoff- Yes it has sensitivity setting. It is only 1 ft or so from the trolling motor. But the wires are ran as far away from it as possible. I've gotten the same results just drifting. With everything else disconnected from the battery. My next day on the water will probably be spent on the water with customer service. Quote

Also, you may be seeing weeds/trees/who knows... is it all the time? Maybe the setting is so sensitive its picking up rocks? Quote
