papajoe222 Posted April 12, 2019 Posted April 12, 2019 You've heard the saying and there is a lot of truth to it. Of the many sayings regarding fishing, specifically bass fishing, there is one that applies 100% of the time and this one isn't it. (maybe 80%) That leads me to the following; If you have the opportunity and time to go fishing, even for an hour or two on the way home from work, don't pass it up. I was rewarded with one of the best two hours of fishing that I've experienced in the last ten years by doing just that. Bluebird skies and 15mph winds out of the east be da#!d, I was going to wet a line today. Sounds like I'm about to give you a fishing report, but what I really want to do is convey a little bit of common bassin' sense. It's that saying that applies 100% of the time and is ignored by way too many anglers; You can only catch fish if you have a line in the water. Don't pass up the chance to have a memorable outing, be it an hour or eight hours, because you don't think you'll catch anything. If you don't, what have you really lost? 3 Quote
Smokinal Posted April 12, 2019 Posted April 12, 2019 Very true Papa! I've had some incredible days when it was "supposed" to be horrible Quote
FishinBuck07 Posted April 12, 2019 Posted April 12, 2019 Good advice! I for one have always been that way, as long as there isn't ice and it isn't lightning out and I have time to fish. That is exactly where I will be. Quote
Super User Oregon Native Posted April 12, 2019 Super User Posted April 12, 2019 I've always had the "mailman" attitude for fishing. Rain...sleet...snow...sun...and sometimes even thunder and lightening (if I'm under cover). I'm out there. Four walls during day light hours are rough to stay inside. 1 Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted April 12, 2019 Super User Posted April 12, 2019 I can honestly say that I've never had a great day with winds from the east. No reason not to go, but keep expectations reasonable. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted April 13, 2019 Super User Posted April 13, 2019 I go fishing when I can. I worry about the wind when I get on the water. Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted April 14, 2019 Super User Posted April 14, 2019 You can't catch em from the couch. Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted April 21, 2019 Super User Posted April 21, 2019 I have never noticed wind direction making a difference with bass fishing. Wind SPEED, now that's a different story. I have never done well during a south west wind in salt water though. Quote

The reason the saying exists is because for a good portion of the county, maybe besides the Atlantic coast, the wind comes from the east about .001% of the time. It’s a convenient excuse but could easily be accurate. The one day out of 500 that the wind blows backwards, the fish may take the day off 1 Quote
Dirtyeggroll Posted April 26, 2019 Posted April 26, 2019 “... catch a big beast.” Is how I have modified the axiom. All caught with an East wind in the last month. Quote
