NathanDLTH Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 Looking a couple of Megabass Rods for short, stout rods similar to the 7’3 Expride XH/Fast. Purpose is frogging and flipping. The two I’ve narrowed down are: https://tackletrap.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1066_1893_1894&products_id=8349&zenid=8111a8ed2b23e0344f5eaec81fbdf7d0 And https://tackletrap.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1066_2409_2410&products_id=10657&zenid=8111a8ed2b23e0344f5eaec81fbdf7d0 Looking for one one that would best mimic the 7’3 XH Expride. I’m open to other options, but overall soft tips I am not a fan. Quote
clh121787 Posted April 12, 2019 Posted April 12, 2019 Im sure those are excellent rods. I have several in the previous gen orochii xx and perfect pitch is still one of my favorites for frogging and flipping. 1 Quote
Super User fishwizzard Posted April 12, 2019 Super User Posted April 12, 2019 I have a rod that is kinda close to those two in power and taper, the MB Huyga 72H. It is rated for 1/2-4oz with a Moderate taper. The top end of the rating is too high though, for me like 2.5oz is the upper limit and 2oz is the comfortable one. It's not a great frog rod in the sense that the tip is not good for walking anything but it's a great one in terms of power and hook-up:landing ratio. I use it for dragging frogs, paddle-tail frogs, toads, and 5" paddletail swimbaits fished like toads and really love it for that. Quote
Diggy Posted April 12, 2019 Posted April 12, 2019 Hit Gary up since you have the TT links, he will set you up right. The Faust is killer from what I have heard. I have my eye on that. My buddy picked up the Valkyrie in the 7'4' H+ model. Quote

This. Gary (the owner of the TT) is VERY knowledgeable on the Megabass rods. Call him or pm him on *** or TT. He will gladly point you in the direction of exactly what you want. Quote
NathanDLTH Posted April 12, 2019 Author Posted April 12, 2019 Gary was a big help, gonna pick his brain a bit more next week before making a choice. His recommendation was the XXX Destruction F7-70K, moderate taper, better tip and loads up better. Faust is very unforgiving he mentioned and needs a heavy load up 1oz or higher to really load up. Thanks gents. 1 Quote
