trojangolf88 Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 I have a small leak in my 14 ft aluminum jon boat. I need a cheap quick fix. any suggestions? I saw some stuff at walmart a while back but I dont remember the name. I was gonna give it a look after work tonite but I thought i might get some suggestions from you guys first. thanks for any help Quote
jhoffman Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 How small is small. I get some water in my boat too but its not even enough to kick the bilge pump on. Quote
trojangolf88 Posted May 22, 2008 Author Posted May 22, 2008 i can see the water coming in, i mean we fished on it for about an hour and it wasn't covering my feet or anything but its just annoying. the previous owner has patched some spots with something and i guess i opened it up pushing it down the bank or something. i had heard some kind of glue would fix it Quote
slice Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Try 'Marine Goop' It's flexible and waterproof. Or, if it's a leaky rivet, get someone to help you by holding a small sledgehammer against the outside of it while you tap gently on the inside with another hammer. Quote
jhoffman Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 If its a rivet you can put a block on one side and smack the other side with a hammer. You can also use 3m 5200, it works great. They also make this stuff called PC Marine, its an epoxy stick that you mix by molding it like playdough then it gets ROCK solid in about 10 minutes. Cabelas also makes a stick you have to heat with a torch, its almost always sold out though. Quote
trojangolf88 Posted May 23, 2008 Author Posted May 23, 2008 its not a rivet, its just on the floor. I believe that 3m stuff is what I've seen at walmart. do I apply that kind of stuff on the inside and outside? Quote

A lot of guys are also coating the INSIDE of their boat with herculiner. LBH proved to not do the outside. ;D Quote
trojangolf88 Posted May 23, 2008 Author Posted May 23, 2008 thanks for the help. i bought the 3m 4200, its suppose to cure in 24 hours and the 5200 said 7 days so im hoping to use it soon. where can i find the herculiner stuff and is it expensive? ive heard good things about it Quote
71Rig Posted May 24, 2008 Posted May 24, 2008 Herculiner is good but the texture tends catch things and keep them around for a while. I like the Dupli-Color bed liner product for a more smooth finish plus it is a bit cheaper. You can usually find both at autoparts stores or Wally-World. Herculiner is about $90 for the kit and the Dupli-Color is about $60. Whatever you do, DO NOT take shortcuts on the application process. This stuff will peel from improper prep of material so follow the directions to a T. I have it in the interior of an off road truck and they both stand up very well. Wears like a pigs nose. Quote
