MDbassin Posted April 8, 2019 Posted April 8, 2019 I've been using the Gamakatsu wide gaps for my typical nose hook drop shot. But what hook do you guys use for Texas rigging your drop shots? I assume some finesse type straight shank with a keeper. What size tho? I use 4-4.5" baits for drop shot mostly if that helps Quote

punch Posted April 8, 2019 Posted April 8, 2019 Owner Covershot is THE dropshot hook for texas rigging if you want a light wire hook. The #1 is the all-around dropshot hook that a lot of pro's use. I use it with heavy line and a baticast setup for flipping cover. Fun technique. Quote

BassinCNY Posted April 8, 2019 Posted April 8, 2019 It depends on the thickness of the bait but either the Gamakatsu light wire EWG or offset worm hook. 1/0 to 3/0 depending on how I'm working the bait. Quote
MDbassin Posted April 8, 2019 Author Posted April 8, 2019 90% of the time I'm using a 4.5" biospawn plasma tail.... geez 3/0 that sounds big compared to the size 1 gammies I use for normal nose hook drop shotting Quote

The main reason you want a the covershot is because it has a killer plastic keeper that's made specifically for t-rigging finesse plastics. Douglas did a good video on the covershot hooks, he runs the smallest one (#2) most of the time. I have some 1/0 drop shot hooks that I really only use when I want to drop shot flukes. Otherwise I'm using #2 or #1. 1 Quote
MDbassin Posted April 8, 2019 Author Posted April 8, 2019 I stick with plasma tails or zoom finesse worms. So similar profile and thickness. I use the missile baits bomb shot also for a bulkier profile. So sounds like the #1 will do just fine for my needs. Thanks Quote
evilcatfish Posted April 8, 2019 Posted April 8, 2019 I always liked the Roboworm Rebarb hooks, but have pretty much switched to the Owner Cover Shot, its a great hook which has served me well Quote
Super User J Francho Posted April 8, 2019 Super User Posted April 8, 2019 Owner Down Shot Offset hooks for anything but bubba-shot. https://www.ownerhooks.com/product/down-shot-offset/ 1 Quote
Super User JustJames Posted April 8, 2019 Super User Posted April 8, 2019 #2 gamatkatsu EWG hook or #1 Roboworm rebarb hook. pic compare to Zman TRD on #1 rebarb hook and pics compare between the two. Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted April 9, 2019 Super User Posted April 9, 2019 Lunker City makes a hook called the Tex-sposer. It is designed for fishing Slugs, but I've found it works OK for tx rigged drop shot baits. Quote
