Just in case it could help anyone wondering about the costs to ship a rod, I went to both UPS and FEDEX to check out prices for shipping my rod back to Bass Pro headquarters in Missouri from Chicagoland.

I was shipping back a 6’6” St. Croix Rod.

UPS- $36

FEDEX- $27

Do the prices include the shipping tube?

If you have a shipping tube already don't forget to check out the post office.

Although the shipping companies seem to charge a lot, at least you know your rod is safe and can be insured if it is damaged in transit.

Question: Is the rod worth the cost of shipping it to and from St. Croix?

And your answer is......................

My 6’6”-7’ rods usually cost about $45.00 at both ups and FedEx. I think the price is higher in Chicago.

Why were you shipping it back? I've gotten a broken one from them and they paid for the return shipping and cross shipped a new one.

Although I save my shipping tubes I doubt I'll ever sell a rod and ship it.

Why can't you take it back to a Bass Pro shop near Chicago, like the Bolingbrook store?

That’s an understandable question. I asked the same thing. But because I bought it under the “6 month pay plan” they said that is only done online and must be handled through their headquarters.

Alls I wanted to do was switch the rod, which they had plenty on the shelves at my local store, but they said they could not do it “in-store”.

Thats crazy stuff i tell you. I could physically touch the rod I wanted to switch for, but it’s not their policy to do so. Now I got to wait another 3 weeks to get my rod.

This. I ordered a reel from them in January, took it out in March and it had issues. I called them and they said I can take it to the store for an exchange. The store was Bolingbrook.

Yeah, I took it to Bolingbrook. They wouldn’t process the exchange, cause they said I was on that “6 month pay plan”.
