This has been asked before, but have mercy. When should I and on what should I  rig a jighead  on or a ewg hook? What is the difference?

Depends on a lot of factors. But the biggest is probably whether you're in open water or cover. Also, whether you prefer a weightless approach (duh). About the only soft plastic I rig on a jighead is the Hula Grub and that's so I can fish it like a jig and trailer. That would be a weedless jighead. An EWG will suffice for most soft plastics. I use a straight shank offset bend worm hook for thinner worms, like the Trick Worm.

If you're going to be flipping/pitching a T rig into heavy cover, it should be an EWG for superline.

Hope that helps some.

EWG is Extra Wide Gap meaning the hook bend is extra wide for it’s size vs a standard hook. Jigs and worm hooks are available for both.

The hook gap should be at least 2X the thickness of the soft plastic used for weedless worm hooks. Jigs  that have a weed guard the soft plastic is rigged exposed hook point and 1/2 the bend exposed don’t need to be EWG style. Hook size is more important.
