michaelsrex Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 I'm hearing the new JDM scorpian mgl has the same clicking drag as the new Antares. Can anyone confirm? Also, what model US shimano reel would you compare this too? I'm considering on getting it over a second metanium mgl as I prefer longer rods so being the lightest reel isn't really that big of a deal. It seems like their technology's are similar. Quote
kschultz76 Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 It’s essentially a Curado K with an MGL spool from what I’ve read. Quote
michaelsrex Posted April 4, 2019 Author Posted April 4, 2019 It's surprising to me that more people aren't interested in a curado K with a mgl spool and clicking drag. Quote
CrankFate Posted April 4, 2019 Posted April 4, 2019 I’m getting one. Clicking drag or not, for saltwater applications. Disappointed it’s not going to be out till April 30. Quote

I’m not sure MGL spool would benefit a lot over regular spool on the K for most of the K user. MGL spool advertise as lighter/faster spool which should benefit a lot for lighter lures but K users mostly for medium to heavy weight lures. I only have one reel with MGL spool which used for medium-heavy Lure and I don’t see a lot of distance gain over regular Shimano. I think most of Shimano fanboy will buy scorpion base on color scheme and the sake of JDM scorpion name (***made in Malaysia) not upgrade over K. Quote
The Bassman Posted April 6, 2019 Posted April 6, 2019 New Scorp is a 150 so would essentially be an upgraded SLX with X-Ship. Quote
Super User JustJames Posted April 6, 2019 Super User Posted April 6, 2019 And the new SLX get 70 size MGL spool, while curado 70 get no love. ? Quote

I don’t think so, I don’t see symbol or exciting drag sound in scorpion mgl from Shimano japan. This is sumbol you you are looking for. Quote

Line capacity always = more unnecessary weight. By the time the reel has line on it and then when the line gets wet, it adds about 2oz of unnecessary weight to the reel. Quote
