river-rat Posted June 14, 2020 Posted June 14, 2020 Since I fish shallow water in south Louisiana 90% of the time, I'm usually using a floating jerkbait. I have listed my favorites in order. Cotton Cordell Redfin (gold) Smithwick Rogue A.C. Shiner 1 Quote

Have you tried Magabass Vision 110+2 in order to make it go deeper? I do have the +2's - nice bait. However I have not yet established much confidence in it yet as I've only been fishing it since spring. Yes, I do fish jerkbaits 'all season long' but the vast majority of the plus sized brown bass I hunt with them, comes early & late season. Additionally, the wild and frenetic pace/action required to illicit a strike with a jerkbait during the warmer water periods, takes a toll on the wrist & forearms. So it's not a presentation I routinely use for an entire day or a few days in a row. Local smallies here go 'deep', like dropshot only kind of deep, for much of the summer. Early and late in the day they might be coaxed into a coming up for a jerkbait, but there usually seems like there's more ligament & tendon friendly methods of getting a bite then too. Don't mean to sound like a wimp, but if you've not done the high speed WACK WACK WACK jerkbait deal for 3 or 4 straight hours, try it. Harder than Deep Cranking or even the A-Rig IMO. A-Jay Quote

A-Jay I should've asked what don't you have? LOL I've done that said method for hours, and I always wondered why I was so sore and tired at the end of the day. When I get too beat, I usually switch back to ol'Texas rigging. I'm no spring chicken anymore although semi-macho side of me don't want to admit that.... 1 Quote

And do what I can to keep myself in decent shape. Still if I can get them to eat a spybait - I'm a happy camper. A-Jay Quote
Shimano_1 Posted June 14, 2020 Posted June 14, 2020 Megabass vision 110 in the variations for whatever the conditions call for. Tennessee shad is my go to color Quote

I used to be a power lifter (Temple Hills Power lifting Club in MD) myself in my younger days, and I do have some trophies to back it up, but I'm not ripped like that. You, regardless of your age, look great, period! I've never even heard of a spybait till just now; did some quick research, and I think it's a great idea to catch both LM, and SM! I'm always learning something from you, and am impressed with your knowledge/skills. Much obliged! 1 Quote

No power lifting for me - Just want to be able to move myself around for as long as I can. I keep it basic and try not to blow anything up. You know what it's like. Sorry for the hi-jack. Now back to our regularly scheduled programming. A-Jay 1 Quote
Eric Matechak Posted June 21, 2020 Posted June 21, 2020 My absolute favorite is the Jackall Rerange handsdown. Puts off so much flash on sunny days. Startles bass and stripers into striking. Megabass 110 is good too Quote
Ogandrews Posted June 21, 2020 Posted June 21, 2020 All of my usual favorites have been covered here but my new favorite for small jerkbaits is the duo realis rozante 77sp. Just over 3” but still weighs 3/8oz and has a transfer system so it still casts well on a baitcaster. Incredible action for a small bait, all of the biggest brown trout I caught this winter were on it as well as some nice walleye and smallmouth this spring in the river. Quote
MGF Posted June 21, 2020 Posted June 21, 2020 I've only used the Rapala line and I came to them by accident. When I fist moved here and started fishing my river I lost a lot of tackle to the rocks. I had some floating Rapalas so I tried them and I caught a lot of fish. I used to use a lot of count-downs in the Arkansas rivers for trout so I gave them a try to get below the surface and I caught lots of fish on them. My wife went to the store to restock and came home with some x-raps. We've caught a lot of fish on a-raps and husky jerks since then but I kind of got away from them because I lost so many to pike.
