Trout_Blazer Posted April 1, 2019 Posted April 1, 2019 Just bought a St. Croix Premier 5ft ultralight, Moderate action. Will the moderate action be okay for fishing trout in a small stream. I plan on using spinners, trout magnets and worms and power bait. Will it be okay or should I look at a fast action instead, not that i want too, let me know thanks!! Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted April 2, 2019 Super User Posted April 2, 2019 Should be good. Make sure you match the line and lure weight with it and it should work. Looks like Line is 2-6# test and lures 1/16 - 1/4oz. Good luck Quote
redmeansdistortion Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 You'll be fine. Most trout rods are moderate action for two reasons. 1. trout have softer mouths than some other species and it's easy to yank a hook out of their mouth with a fast action rod, and 2. trout tend to be line shy and a moderate action is a better choice for lighter line. In this case, the rod does more of the work whereas with a faster action rod, the line does the work. I fish brook trout any chance I get and for those I like to use a 5'6" UL moderate with 2lb or 4lb test. 1 Quote
