Snaps

Anyone like these? What lures you using? I seen these in a wiggle wart so bought some to try. Tied directly to braid.

I use them if I am switching crankbaits until I find what is working.

I use snaps, but I remove the split ring on baits prior to connecting with the snap. My eyesight is poor and although they are small, it's easier for me to tie one on than to tie directly to the lure.

I use snaps but there are only two brands that get high reviews.  Owner and decoy are the only ones I hear consistantly are high quality.  I use the owner but nothing bad to say about decoy.  Any snap reeled into a tiptop will give you headaches.

That's the size and type I use for making bladed jigs, but they're not specifically Eagle Claw brand. I'd remove the split ring if you're going to attach your cranks with a snap. Nothing wrong with doing it, but I get complacent if I do it and end up not retying often enough.

I've used those before and have not had any problems. With the poor eyesight that comes with age I just find it easier to quickly swap out lures. If I was on a boat and had 8 rods I'd probably tie off, but I bank fish and only bring *** rods depending upon what I think I will need that day.

 

Instead of using a plain snap, I mostly use snap swivels (as opposed to barrel swivels).

I like the VMC crankbait snaps.  Sizes 00, 0 and 1.

I just started using the Mustad Fastach clips both with and without swivel.

I always use snaps on any kind of moving bait. I don't get why some anglers tie direct? Waist of time to me. But....I have had snaps break, costing me a nice smallie and an expensive jerk bait! So just make sure you use quality snaps. Don't get the cheapies at Walmarts.

Do you know what brand of lure that is in your picture? I have a couple of those I found and I was curious what they are.

 

Those Eagle Claw size 2 is okay, but beware of size 1 - I've had LMB pull those apart.

 

I use the size 2 for bladed jigs. I bend the wire down tight at the joints so they can't be opened. That particular brand/design is not totally safe to use like you are using it.  You might have a malfunction and lose a lure/fish. It’s rare, but possible. There are lots of other types available that are more secure. Here's a thread where a few different types are discussed:

And the Anglers that don't use snaps, wonder why anyone would waste the effort to use snaps..

I have used them occasionally when I’m trying a lot of different baits to see what works.    When you use them you don’t have to retie but people forget that it’s good to retie.

been using a duo lock type snap on ALL of my crankbait & jerkbait fishing for the past 30 years. I have NEVER had ANY issues at all with them. i also keep the split ring on the bait, and hook snap to split ring.

The lure is an Ozark Trail brand crank. Bought it to try because they are $1.

That snap looks a little too big for the lure, perhaps 1 size smaller.

 I've been using Decoy snaps as of late, either the Egg or V-Snap.  I actually had one of the V-Snap break on me after some use, so I've been favoring the Egg snaps.

Kahara Quick Lock Snaps size 0. Split rings removed.

I have used the owner and the eagle claw. The owner is far superior in my opinion.
