What is the best way to wacky rig Weedless that you guys prefer?

Posted

Dunno about whacky rigging weedless, but I did ghetto-rig a ned rig weedless to fish the slop this morning, more or less t-rigged it, even on that little hook I had no issues snagging the fish

I lied...Cabelas appears to have some weedless wacky rig looking contraption for sale, try googling weedless wacky rig and it pops up, just a wacky hook with a weed guard.

I personally love the Berkley Fusion19 weedless wacky hook. It’s about all I throw the wacky rig on.

Vmc makes a good neko/wacky hook as well as a weedless wacky jig head.  Fav way to work it is over the top of veg then dropping it into the holes.

I also like vmc's weedless wacky jig head, post spawn thru fall on non-senkos.

I make my own from Gamakatsu bulk packs (25 hooks) of their

Split Shot/Drop shot and Finesse Wide Gap hooks.

I wacky rig Senkos and some finesse style worms with the Gammy hooks. The Gamakatsu G-Finesse Wacky Jig Head (1/16oz or 1/8oz) and the Gamakatsu G-Finesse Weedless Wacky Hook are my primary weedless dropshot hooks. I also have the Gamakatsu Wide Gap Finesse Weedless Hook, which I use for nose hooking flukes, but it is another Gammy weedless hook that could be used for a weedless wacky rig.

I don't know how many fish I've caught with a wacky rig and these hooks over the years, but if I'm faced with fishing weeds, they are my go to hook.

I’ve used the gama with the plastic weed guardthat bends over the hook for years with lots of success.

What material do you use for the weed guard?

50 yard spool of 40# Ande leader material (mono).

Felt that 50# was a tad too stiff, and 30# was a tad

too soft. 40# seems to be the sweet spot.

The Gama G-Finesse weedless wacky is the best I’ve found. It’s not entirely weedless, but it’s pretty good.

The old style weedless gama with the plastic weedguard that covers the hook point is garbage. I’d catch every piece of debris on the lake with it. It would get caught at the hook eye. And the weedguard failed to detach on almost every hookset, which yielded TONS of fish lost.
