Y'all ever fish one weightless like a Fluke?

I did last week on Toledo Bend & while I didn't catch anything the action was awesome.

I tried it again this morning in a local marsh, I caught 3 Warmouth, 1 Crappie, & 1 bass, they all choked the Keitech!

Will be throwing it more!  ?

Found it interesting that they're infused with squid. I picked up some regulars on clearance because I'm too cheap to spend that much on something that tears up so easily. Bass must like squid, though. They do catch fish.

@Catt you let it sink or stay on top?

The French Pearl color is what I'm throwing does not include squid scent.

I have and like it for times I like a fluke.

Have also added a small swivel a couple feet up the hook and it’s just enough to change the action. Often gets hit on the pauses since it usually is falling

I also think they make a great spinnerbait trailer.

A great little bait but I prefer the Keitech Shad Impact without the paddle tail. It is essentially a soft jerk bait.

I get a lot of mileage out of mine by using 3/0 60 degree bend jig hooks with a medium sized Owner CPS to attach to the Keitech's nose, then T-Rig it from there where I keep the hook tip down in that groove on the dorsal side of the bait. I often get through a whole trip just using one Shad Impact.

It is essentially weedless, can and should be fished all over the water column until you figure out where the bass are located. I often get hit on the drop, at other times down on the bottom like a T-Rigged worm.

It has been my number 1 presentation for about a year now, all seasons, very effective.  Fish it slow generally.

Everything Keitech makes is great.

I had a great day yesterday throwing Fat Impacts in the Bluegill Flash color on a 1/8oz VMC swimbait head. I’ll try ‘em weightless next!

I switched from the Keitech to Rage Swimmer when they were introduced.

More action at a slower retrieve speed.

Rage products are great, I like the ones I use, and I'm happy they are a sponsor here.....but at this point, I think they could put a rage appendage on a cat turd and you'd claim it was the greatest thing ever. I say that half joking, and half serious.

Nothing beats a Keitech...including a Rage swimmer. I have tested, and neither pay me to say so.

I've been accused of only using Rage products because I get em free!

I do use other plastics ?

Sometimes we get button holed into thinking these little swimbaits are only good as trailers.

I rarely throw them totaly weightless, at the very least I stick two small nails in them by the head.  It helps counter the tendency for the plastic to spin when it’s not on the hook 100% stright.

Moaner Hooks sells a 3/0-1/16oz swimbait hook that is amazing for them as well. It’s just enough weight to let me keep them just sub-surface on a semi-brisk retrieve.

While pond fishing last fall, the tail got bit off my last SIF. I looked at that little sucker and thought, I can fish this thing like a Fluke while twitching it. I managed to catch a few before it got too torn up to use anymore. It's definitely one way to use up those old baits.

I haven't totally weightless, as they're so lite weight I hadn't really given it a thought. The GYBC Swim senko however has caught some amazing #'s in that role

Are you saying the Rage Swimmer has MORE action at slower speeds than the Keitech Fat Swing Impact ? ... I would think the opposite would occur ?

I also like them on a drop shot once they have had the paddletail bit/torn off

I have been known to slide a couple strands of jig skirt thru the end as well, now that paddletail is a skirttail

A few days off the water for me with a slight head cold, but so nice yesterday, out I went in my Sportspal canoe.

Heaven!

As usual, and all year long, the weightless Keitech Shad Impact produced. It is just one of those presentations that has particular aspects to it that makes it very versatile. Fish bite it on the drop, they bite it on jerky retrievals, smooth retrievals, off the bottom, in all depths in the water column. It can be fished in the heaviest of pads and over gunky vegetation, open water, and weighted in various ways to achieve desired water depths.

If there is any version of its presentation range I think is most often overlooked, it is fishing it incredibly slow. Last late afternoon, I got bit on one of my first casts by pulling it along the bottom in my cove's creek channel where I was reeling in at about one handle revolution per 3 seconds. For some strange reason, I just decided to treat it the way some anglers present large swimbaits . . . pulled back incredibly slow on the bottom. It worked!!!

Cheers!  Brad

 weightless Keitech Shad Impact

I fished these for a season and really like them, can’t remember why I never restocked when I ran out.

For fishing in current I would rig them on a tiny 1/16oz shakeyhead, the little bit of weight really helped me steer them where I wanted them to go.

At one point last Summer the bite dropped off on my go-to jig and I happened to have one on another setup.  I added a nail weight and hopped it along the bottom as I was my jig and was pleasantly surprised.  For the remainder of the year I always had one in deck because my confidence grew.  In giving this a second thought, it may be one of the more versatile baits, that doesn't come to mind as my first option. Got to change that.....good thread!

For another version of adding "the little bit of weight," I'd recommend an Owner 3/0 underspin. It is the right size for the 4" Keitechs, and I'd actually use a paddle tail here, not the Shad Impact, to get that really nice and proper action on a retrieval. Else, for fishing slower, a tiny weight either at the nose or even pinched on the line a few feet up would work great.

Isn't that odd that for most of us, we look back, see that we were having success with something, then for some strange reason, stop using it. It is the angler's version of banging our heads against a wall. Ha!
