Sebastian Andews Posted March 31, 2019 Posted March 31, 2019 I want recommendations on what rod to get when fishing for Bluegill Sunfish Or Catfish Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted March 31, 2019 Super User Posted March 31, 2019 For bluegill or any panfish I'd recommend a Light or Ultra-Light rod with a 500 or 1000 size spinning reel loaded with 4# test line. My panfish/trout rig is a President 25 on a 6'6" Diawa Spinmatic Ultra-Light rod with 4# Berkley Trilene XL. I don't go after catfish, so can't help you there. Quote
bassh8er Posted March 31, 2019 Posted March 31, 2019 You want an ultra light to light rod for panfish and a medium heavy to heavy to extra heavy rod for catfish; depending on what size you’ll encounter. You can catch a fish in anything, but I’d recommend separate setups for panfish and catfish. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 31, 2019 Global Moderator Posted March 31, 2019 Unless the catfish you're targeting are very small, like bullheads or tiny channel cats, you're going to need 2 different combos for panfish and catfish. Even a 3 or 4 pound channel cat is going to be a real test on most ultralight gear, especially around any kind of cover. 1 Quote
@reelChris Posted April 13, 2019 Posted April 13, 2019 For bluegill or sunfish, it's hard to beat the roughly $15 Zebco Dock Demon or the Ugly Stick dock runner combos, especially if you need to outfit a bunch of kids. https://www.catfishconnection.com/Store/Details/ZDDS/RODREEL/RDRLZ/ZEBCO-DOCK-DEMON/ https://www.fishusa.com/product/Shakespeare-Ugly-Stik-Dock-Runner-Spinning-Combo?utm_source=google_ps&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=google_ps&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIanother sitemtfrL4QIVDNvACh1oQAaIEAQYAiABEgImgPD_BwE There are a bunch of youtube movies about their strength, with people even catching large fish on them, although there are obviously better choices for that: 1 Quote

Crazy! Zebco Lure rating.... 1/64 ounce-as much your weak ass can lift. 1 Quote
NittyGrittyBoy Posted April 13, 2019 Posted April 13, 2019 Zebco ZO2 with Zebco Omega rod. Jam up combo, I throw beetlespins and small cranks. Big gills, red breasts, crappie. I highly recommend checking them out. I catch small channels and bullheads, but for bigger cats, check out a bigger rod. Quote
