wapsi smallmouth Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 I am trying to get the number of fish I hook during practice down, I use a lot of moving baits so that makes it kind of difficult. I was wondering if you guys had any tips for crankbaits, spinnerbait etc? thanks wapsi smallmouth Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted March 29, 2019 Super User Posted March 29, 2019 One option is to fish your crankbait(s) with trebles that either have the points of the hooks rolled or cut off. Also you can slide a small length of used stick bait over the point of the spinnerbait hook while practicing. Just don't forget to replace the trebles with 'good' ones and remove the plastic off the spinnerbait, before Derby Day. Good Luck A-Jay 1 Quote

Super User Team9nine Posted March 29, 2019 Super User Posted March 29, 2019 Cover the hook point with plastic tubing (aquarium style) cut to length, then simply don't set the hook - let the fish play with it until he drops it. 1 Quote

Super User Oregon Native Posted April 1, 2019 Super User Posted April 1, 2019 Remember a state tourney on lake Powell many years ago where me and a good friend were pre-fishing. We were putting the hook inside our tubes and just fishing the backs of creeks. Also we were covering our tubes with Smelly Jelly at the time. It was sooooooo fun...we would get bit and try and lead the fish to the boat without setting the hook. We saw a lot of the fish in the clear water as we brought them in....never got to quit lip them ...but did get wet a couple times when they turned and left. Good times. Oh....good info above. Quote
