Anyone try these Pirana Lures?

I came across these crankbaits a while back.   They look interesting, but a bit gimmicky.   https://www.piranafishinglures.com/

There price seems a bit high.   I could get a a couple nice cranks of good quality for the price of one of these.

 

What do you guys think of them?  Has anyone tried them?  How well do they work?

I never understood the open gill design. There was another manufacturer who had a similar deal and that didn't last long on the market. Supposedly allows water through. I'm sure it does but it seems to keep the bait from diving deep. That vid looked like it would be like a floating minnow, but IMO there are cheaper and better options.

Yet a Popmax is still one of the highest producers.  This lure looks like something for people that don't know or can't walk a bait.  All I saw in the video was side to side action.

 

For the OP, buy a Popmax instead.  Seriously.

I can see the open gill design on the popmax being effective as a topwater, not on this lure

Just curious, why the difference?

I can see the open gill design leaving a bubble trail on a topwater, but based on the vids there is no bubble trail, so why advertise it that way? The only time he's getting a bubble trail is when he jerks the bait from the surface which can be done with a floating minnow and even a PopR.

 

May just be me tho, who knows...

I watched the video, too.  Maybe I'm missing it, but I don't see too much bubbling action on a Popmax either.  The Pirana (they can't spell piranha?) looked like it would be a decent twitch bait, like an original Rapala Floater.  I'm trying to stay open minded these days, lol.

I noticed the spelling as well, not gonna lie, I had to go back to the link a couple of times to make sure I was spelling right.

 

IDK, I'm not one to be the first to rush out and get new things on the market. I got my son a bat this year for Christmas and got last years model because of the reviews. I wasn't about to spend $300 for a product that wasn't even used yet.

$12 is a bit much to gamble on an unproven bait from an unknown name.  Would you be more or less likely to try it if it said MegaBass, Lucky Craft, or even Rapala on it?

There's been a few 'bubbling' baits, and I've always been skeptical of the whole concept. You've got to have air to make bubbles. You can carry a tiny amount of air down with a lure, but not much. If you're after bubbles, alka seltzer is probably a better alternative (joking).

Ok, I don't care what any of you say, this has to be the coolest looking lure on the market (lately). Come on, it has freaking teeth! I'm going to get a one- not for fishing, just cause it looks neato. BTW: they are out of stock on everything.

 

Now, I am not saying it is as cool as this baby, http://www.hoverlure.com/ but I can rank it up there with it.

 

Gimmicks aside - this is pretty much the same popper anybody has out there with new weed catching lip!

MegaBass Pop-X came out in the early 90's with open gill design at $17, lot of money back then but it worked.

That was my main concern.   I've never heard of this brand, thought someone here may have.

I thought that it was cool looking.  But the price isn't cool.   If I had some extra cash to waste, I might get one.   But it wouldn't be my first purchase.

You got me wondering, so I googled 'alka seltzer lure' and clicked on 'images' and believe it or not, the fourth result was a picture of the Pirana lure. It was from a review of the lure and it suggested you could put alka seltzer inside the Pirana. It also linked to an old forum that mentioned a lure from the 50's or 60's called:

Here's a collection of lures that are driven by gases like baking soda, alka seltzer or even dry ice. There's also one that emits blood and one sardine oil. Also a battery-operated lure that had a battery in the bobber and an electrical wire instead of line running to the lure. I think these folks were more creative and ingenious back then than folks now with all the high technology at their hands.

@fin those lures look kinda rough.   lol   But they give me some ideas to try.

 

As for the Pirana lures, i think they would make a better keychain.

I once fished next to a guy who swore by foldong a few alka-seltzers into the chicken livers he was using as catfish bait.  He would bind them up with thread and tie the gross little package to the hook eye. 

 

It seemed to work for him as he was getting more bites then anyone else I have ever seen at that spot.

I just had to check out the goofy Hover-lure!! That is beyond ridiculous!!!?
