Jmp_37 Posted March 25, 2019 Posted March 25, 2019 I currently have a 7’9” XH 1/2-4oz Fast Fenwick elite tech rod that I use for swimbaits and was wondering if it would double as a flipping rod or is it a bit too heavy? Quote
Super User MickD Posted March 26, 2019 Super User Posted March 26, 2019 I don't think the XH power is right, and with a rod that is both XH and quite long, it's probably going to be very tiring. And even pitching does load the rod some, so this rod may be like a long broomstick. Costs nothing to try it though. I could be mistaken. Quote
J.Vincent Posted March 26, 2019 Posted March 26, 2019 With an old school Flipping technique or as a Punch Rod; I think it could work. 1 Quote
RichF Posted March 26, 2019 Posted March 26, 2019 I think that's a bit overkill for flipping. Like @MickD says, unless you're the hulk, that sucker is gonna tire you out fast. Quote
LionHeart Posted March 26, 2019 Posted March 26, 2019 Absolutely. With flipping, all you are essentially doing is dipping the bait into a spot, and if a fish bites it, set the hook upward as you hoist them out. Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted March 26, 2019 Super User Posted March 26, 2019 It isn't what I would use but if you are actually flipping or punching and not pitching, I'm sure it would work fine. Quote
