General Daiwa Rod Reviews/Experiences...???

I have never owned any Daiwa rods. But I have some general questions...

 

1. The Daiwa Steez line of rods are more expensive than a GLoomis NRX. With that said...Are the steez line of rods as sensitive and light as a GLoomis NRX JWR...? 

 

2. Some Daiwa rods are labeled as having a 'regular' taper. I have never seen this before in a rod. What's Daiwa's regular taper like...? Seems like it would fall somewhere in-between a moderate and a fast. So...is it comparable to a standard medium/moderate fast...? Is it slightly slower than a medium/moderate fast...? Is it slightly faster than a medium/moderate fast...?

I have own 2 Original Tatula rods.  One 7'2" Heavy Fast (excellent pitching rod) and a 7'2" Medium Heavy Regular.  I knew I'd regret selling it, and I do.  The 'regular' to me felt like a fast action by most standards.  Maybe, maybe a faster version of moderate fast, but it was an excellent trig and 3/8 oz jig rod if that tells you anything.

 

Very light, and sensitive rods, period.  Not perfect though.  The handles are shorter than I prefer, and the reel seat never quite felt right to me.

 

I have also owned one of the newer versions.  I really liked the change to full cork handle and different reel seat.  Sensitivity seemed on par as the original version.

 

The Steez or NRX I can't speak for.  I got bills.

With the exception of the glass rods (regular is more MF), this is very spot on.

I can’t comment first hand on the steez rods vs nrx rods. I hear wonderful things about a few of the steez rods and they seem to be extremely popular in the finesse spinning department. Otherwise it looks like nrx gets the nod. Personally I would just stick with nrx as my experience with daiwa rods have only been so so. 

 

I bought a zillion 7’2” medium-heavy regular (which I was told regular is suppose to be a moderate to moderate fast) and it was a fast 100%. For the price the rod lacked sensitivity but d**n what a nice looking rod. Second rod was a tatula lt 7’ spinning rod. Paired it with a shimano stradic fk and it looked awesome, balanced beautiful, first fish on the rod snapped it in half. That was 2 week of season for me and I didn’t get it back from warrenty until basically end of season! Was pretty disappointed. Hopefully this one is better otherwise I won’t be purchasing another daiwa rod

I own that rod. I've caught two fish between 7-8 lbs on it. Both came at the end of long casts and fought hard on the way in. I've clipped multiple tree branches while night fishing with it. It keeps on ticking. I have two more and they've been equally abused, but no problems with either so far. Your sample probably had a flaw. It happens

Oh I totally agree. I was fairly pleased with the rod for the money, felt nice looked great, and for under 100 dollars Canadian it seems like a good stick. Everyone let’s a dud go from time to time and I’m assuming that was this one. That’s just my experience so far. We will see this season as it’s finally back and ready to be fished

I have several of the Tatula XT rods,  absolutely love them and have had zero problems.

i'm always in the minority on steez rods...i've never had a problem with sensitivity with them, and absolutely love the airbeam seat. i've got a couple of the steez xt's now, and have been trying to find more. i'm pretty sure i'm gonna have to bite the bullet and spring for an ags model to round out what i need though.

 

if the past couple of years have shown the direction daiwa's headed with their rods, i'm almost sure there will be a steez update in the near future, and the reel seats will probably be changed to a more ecsm-style.
