Aquahallic Posted March 25, 2019 Posted March 25, 2019 I've been lurking for a few weeks and finally joined. First off I'm a newbie in every sense of the word. I havent fished since I was a kid. I now have two kids myself and wanted to get them into fishing since we have a pond right across the street from our house and have several lakes and rivers with 5 miles of our house. I started off doing hours and hours and hours of research, so much so that my wife says I'm obsessed. LOL I wanted something easy for my kids (6 and 12) so I bought them a pair of Zebco gold spincasters. So far so good, it took them about a day to get the casting down. We caught a tree the first day. The 4lb line that came on it wasn't the best so I spooled them with 8lb. line. Me on the other hand, it's been a mess. I started out with a spinning reel but I just couldn't get the hang of it so I bought a Zillion SV baitcaster. WOW, it is so much easier for me to use but I did birdnest twice, really bad where I had to cut the braid off of the spool but I've since watched a Tatula SV video on how to set it up properly and have had 0 backlashes since. We still haven't caught any fish but hopefully that'll change soon! I'll update with pics once we do...wish us luck! I'm looking forward to learning a lot here! PS: I'm sure I'm going to ask dumb & very basic questions so bear with me and be easy on me. I didn't even know what a jig was before finding this site. 1 Quote
