So I'm watching the 2019 (2018?) MLF Summit cup final and the following quotes occur as anglers hookup:

Jacob Wheeler: "Wow, this a tank" - fish weighs 5 lb, 4 oz

Brent Ehrler: "Look out, this is a giant" - fish weighs 5lb, 8 oz.

Mike Iaconelli: "Oh My God, its a giant!! - fish weighs 1lb, 10 oz.

What is wrong with Ike?  How can a pro who catches so many fish, consistently over-estimate their weight as he is landing them.  Is he just a drama queen, screaming that every fish is a giant in order to gain attention?  Or is he an idiot?

I know some folks like him, for he is very talented and a good teacher.  For me, the act has worn thin, to the point that I find myself actively avoiding the products he endorses unless I have previous experience with it.

How many of you think he does this (screaming every fish is a giant) on purpose as a way to get more facetime

?

That's his shtick.

He's like a drama queen who needs to scream "hey look at me" so people will connect him with something.

As as far as over estimating his catches, he doesn't want the camera guy to turn away.

Because he is a certified idiot. End of question. As good of a fisherman he is I just cannot watch the guy. I believe what we have here is a case of tiny D_____ Syndrome.  It's really the only logical explanation

Mr. Iaconelli is a skilled and experienced bass angler no doubt.

I do enjoy his efforts when he is explaining a bait or technique as his presentation comes across as articulate & genuine.

However, is on-camera persona when he's fishing appears in line with the old WWF - Hacksaw Jim Duggan would be proud.  Definitely not my cup of tea.

My mute button gets a workout.

At least he's not simultaneously sporting the Tommy Biffle short shorts.

Yes, he's an idiot.  I can't believe he doesn't lose more fish the way he handles the rod.  Agree on the mute button.

The thing that gets me is why in the hell does he immediately jump as fast as he can to the back of the boat every time he hooks a fish? I’ve very successfully hooked and landed a ton of fish of every species and size all while standing on the front deck, and bending over the front gunwhale to land them. The only time I’ve ever had to go to the rear is if a big pike, musky, or trout decides he wants to run towards the outboard, and even then it’s often simply a matter of hitting the front trim button with my foot and the problem is solved. Seems like there’s ample opportunity to lose a fish if your running all over the place like a jackrabbit on crack!

Hahaha me and my buddies act like him just to mess with other boaters . We always get the most ridiculous looks. Catch a  14" bass and freak out ha.beers at the lakeside restaurant with lunch could possibly contribute to this

I like Mike. I think it’s mostly genuine, now mostly habit and expected behavior and he knows it and why not capitalize on it. You don’t think your favorite music artist are that deep and poetic All the time right? They know when to turn it on. Works for Mike

Simple, it's his "hook" for the audience.  Same as Swindle with his humor.  Most every "Pro" wants a hook to keep and generate an audience after all, it's a show.

Can he be over the top yes. I personally love his passion for fishing and his ability to wear his emotions on his sleeve. Is he everyone’s favorite no. But I remember just this year in the Classic he was on a tear day 2. No crazy outburst or anything. He was so dialed in yet took the time to explain what where and why he was doing it.

This is also coming from a happy gilmore/billy Madison fan too ha!

Ike's a goof but that persona has made his brand one of the biggest in the game.
