Harold Scoggins Posted March 23, 2019 Posted March 23, 2019 I got so frustrated trying to buy non-resident licenses for multiple states this morning, I felt like taking a hammer to the laptop. I always purchase for the year as it is cheaper than buying by the day as I usually will spend 1-2 weeks at a lake. Some state sites work good, others not so good. I wish the Department of the Interior or other agency would host one site where a person could go and make multiple state purchases. Maybe it's just one of those days. Quote
Russ E Posted March 23, 2019 Posted March 23, 2019 Fortunately for me besides my resident Kansas License, the only other license I buy is for Missouri. their website is surprisingly simple. My Issue is, 2 of the lakes I fish are managed by the counties instead of the state. They charge individual fees for boating and fishing. I pay around $175.00 a year extra for those 2 lakes.  2 Quote
BassDude802 Posted March 24, 2019 Posted March 24, 2019 here in VT, I get mine online as it is pretty painless. Quick trip across the border i get my Nh license at a Walmart. When i go to RI I go to a local tackle shop, it seems a little easier. A couple of years back I needed my Maryland license I remember it being a bit annoying to get in online. All in all, I'd rather deal with that hassle than engaging in an awkward convo with a game warden. Quote

So did Illinois, but Virginia, Georgia, and Texas was giving me a headache. Might have been my server, but those sites would eventually take me to blank pages. I'll try again in a couple of days or maybe I'll call and see if I can do it over the phone. 1 Quote
Junk Fisherman Posted March 24, 2019 Posted March 24, 2019 Sorry to hear that. I get Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Michigan online without a problem.  1 Quote

Super User slonezp Posted March 24, 2019 Super User Posted March 24, 2019 I buy a non resident annual license for Wisconsin every year. It's easier than getting a resident license for Illinois. 1 Quote
Hog Basser Posted March 25, 2019 Posted March 25, 2019 My biggest problem when i buy non-resident licenses is the constant barrage of emails from those states after I've fished there. I went to Maine two years ago and we stayed on the water, so I bought a license. I still get emails from them all the time. And don't even get me started on Oklahoma, they send me emails at least weekly and I get them in triplicate since my email address at work has changed twice, but I still receive everything that comes to the old addresses.  Quote

Super User fishwizzard Posted March 25, 2019 Super User Posted March 25, 2019 I feel like states where fishing is a big tourist draw have far better sites then those that dont.  I travel for work all the time and if there is a pond/lake/river/whatever within site of my hotel I will try to buy a license and fish. Quote
Falkus Posted March 26, 2019 Posted March 26, 2019 I just sign up my fishing licence on my "spam emails" so that way they just get it there.  Sometimes I just miss the interaction with people. so I let it expire for me to go out out to basspro shop and order it htere. Quote
jgaillard Posted March 5, 2021 Posted March 5, 2021 What I do not understand is why hunters and fisherman are charged exorbitant fees for our recreation? I am from VA I pay $40 for a license plus a new $25 fee for boat ramps plus $10 to throw a cast net plus a $20 trout stamp plus more for specific areas. Obviously this in underhanded punishment from those that don't like our sport. What about biking, golf, hiking, mountain climbing etc etc etc? I know about regulated stocks, education and management but its more than that. We pay taxes to maintain hiking trails, build roads access to mountains state parks etc. thats all through our taxes. People like deer on their property and in parks but only hunters pay to maintain the herd? 2 Quote

It is very much in our own interest for the fishermen and hunters to be paying for the bikers, hikers, skiers. We get to set the ground rules on the state land.  I don’t know about other states but, in Michigan hunting and fishing activities come first on the state land/rec areas/ state camp grounds, lakes, and rivers where multiple outdoor activities take place.  Once the other out door activities begin to pay they will start to expect that they are given favor first and or other areas free of hunters and fishermen.  We the fishermen/women and hunters have brought back the rivers, woods, fiends  and lakes from ecological disaster through excise tax’s on sporting goods and licens fees so we get to control what happens and get first priority.  there are plenty of groups that want to wipe out hunting and fishing.  We need to keep them in check 1 Quote
cheezyridr Posted March 7, 2021 Posted March 7, 2021 i live in delaware, but every year i buy licenses for maryland and pa. i don't have any problem with the websites, but the constant emails are annoying. Quote
Super User Boomstick Posted March 8, 2021 Super User Posted March 8, 2021 What was a pain for me was buying them in New York. NY now has a system where you have to create an account. For me, that's great. For my kids, that's not so great. Maybe in a couple years when they can buy their own fine, but for now that's less than ideal. Quote

HookInMouth Posted March 9, 2021 Posted March 9, 2021 Trying to figure out what I need to kayak fish in Virginia and so far it's a bit of a headache. Heading down early June and planning to take the yaks and fish Briery Creek and Sandy River. Looks like I just need a non-resident license (for each fisherman) and a use permit (for each yak). I tried emailing the Virginia DWR but I've gotten no response. Quote

Super User Darth-Baiter Posted March 9, 2021 Super User Posted March 9, 2021 (Cracking my knuckles)  i’m about to get NM and AZ soon.  I like the limited day’s options.  3-5 days to save money.  Thinking of visiting my mom and I’ll bring my kayak to hit a few spots on the road trip.  id love to revisit white bass fishing in elephant butte.  My timing should’ve near perfect.  Then hit AZ on the way home. Quote
