Obi_Wan Posted March 21, 2019 Posted March 21, 2019 I got a new to me 1999 BassCat Pantera. The rod lockers are a pain to open and hold open on the water. I read "somewhere" that you can turn the hydraulic arms around and they will hold the lockers open. However, I've installed mine both ways and no dice. I cannot get them to hold the lockers open. Do I need to buy something special? Am I missing something? Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted March 22, 2019 Super User Posted March 22, 2019 At 20 years old, yours have probably lost some of the pressure they had when they were new. They are also available with various pressures, depending on the load they have to support. An auto parts place, or a place that sells caps for pickups should have them. You can also check with Bass Cat. They'll know the specs yours had when they were new. Google "gas struts" and you should find something that will hold your lockers open. You can also try Amazon. A set of four can be had for 12.99 dollars. 4 Quote
Super User Way2slow Posted March 22, 2019 Super User Posted March 22, 2019 They are also known as Gas Springs. A lot of your local parts houses refer to them as gas springs If you can't cross reference the ones you have by the part number or info on it, see if it has the weight rating on it. It should say if it's a 30#, 40#, etc. Then you can take it to AutoZone or one of the others and see if they have one that matches it. Quote
