SC Largemouth Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 Any suggestions for a 12/24V trolling motor for my Hydra-Sports 18' Bass Boat? Quote
HPBB Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 go straight 24 volt. I do think anyone make a 12/24 anymore. and get as big as you can afford. its always better to have to much power instead of not enuff. I would say something around a 70 will do, but if you can afford a 80 or so then get it. I would suggest Motor Guide Tour Series Digital. they are abit more $$, but well worth it. I have a 109# 36volt, on a 17'6" boat ( see more power always good) and it is the best TM I have ever used. 3 year so far and not one problem. Quote
CPT Scrap Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 if you get the motorguide, definitely go with the tour edition. i purchased the freshwater version that only had the single cable and ive snapped it three times. they have too much torque steer and tend to start to turn wildly at speed 4 and above. also get the variable speed model as it will eat up less battery time. njpaulc Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 I agree with the above. Go with the 80lb MinnKota or the 82lb Motor Guide. The bigger motors are more efficient, and on the larger waters you fish the extra power won't be wasted. I perfer the MInnKota because they work very well in the weeds. Quote
Super User Tin Posted May 13, 2008 Super User Posted May 13, 2008 The biggest 24 volt you can buy. And make sure it is a Minn Kota Maxxum Pro. Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted May 13, 2008 Super User Posted May 13, 2008 Along with the power also get a longer shaft. My boat came with a 67# 42" shaft. I upgraded before delivery to an 82# with a 45" shaft. It has been going for 6 years and hasn't missed a lick. The extra 3" makes a lot of difference in how well you can hold on windy days. Quote
