Pierce LaFleur Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 I use and have used Berkley BigGame for ever, im wondering if there is anthing better that can beat their prices? Quote
Super User MIbassyaker Posted March 20, 2019 Super User Posted March 20, 2019 As far as I can tell, no there is not. I mean, depending on how you define "better", you can probably do better by paying more. but I'm not sure there's any other way. 1 Quote
EWREX Posted March 21, 2019 Posted March 21, 2019 seaguar red label is pretty budget friendly and a very nice line 2 Quote
LCG Posted March 21, 2019 Posted March 21, 2019 Kastking has pretty decent braid, not sure about their mono and fluorocarbon lines but good price points. Quote
kschultz76 Posted March 21, 2019 Posted March 21, 2019 I’ve been happy with McCoy Mean Green for inexpensive mono. 4 Quote
waymont Posted March 21, 2019 Posted March 21, 2019 McCoy line is fantastic. Super limp and strong. I switched from Trilene XL 14lb to McCoy 15lb a few years ago. I like XL but the McCoy is so much more limp and stronger that I stuck with it. I recommend it. It's way way more easy to manage than Big Game. 2 1 Quote
Todd2 Posted March 21, 2019 Posted March 21, 2019 Budget wise, you will hard pressed to find a better line than Big Game. I pay a little more and get Original Stren because it's my favorite. I've used Mccoy and XL, both really good limp lines. But Stren seems to be a good balance of limp yet really tough abrasion wise and knot strength. 1 Quote

Super User NYWayfarer Posted March 21, 2019 Super User Posted March 21, 2019 Hard to beat Berkley Big Game in the budget line category. Other budget lines I like: Stren Sufix Siege, Elite and Promix Kastking Flourokote Kastking Superpower braid 1 Quote
microotter Posted March 21, 2019 Posted March 21, 2019 Another vote for Mccoy Mean Green. I have had the same line without changing on spinning reels for multiple seasons. Quote
LonnieP Posted March 21, 2019 Posted March 21, 2019 One more vote for McCoy. Handles so much better than Big game Quote
RB 77 Posted March 21, 2019 Posted March 21, 2019 For budget line that can beat their price? No. IMO, they are the clear cut leader in this category. With that being said, I use Izorline in that category. Cost about 60% more, but I feel the line handles much better to justify the cost. Both lines are relatively affordable to me considering I started fishing Sniper flouro heavily over the last few years. 1 Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted March 21, 2019 Super User Posted March 21, 2019 Hate to admit this, but I still like C21 copoly. Quote
Super User jimmyjoe Posted March 21, 2019 Super User Posted March 21, 2019 I agree that there are lines out there that handle better than Big Game, and some of them aren't that much money. But the way I think is this: 99% of actually getting the fish in your hands is what happens after the hookset, not before. And that's where Big Game really shines. Timber, pike or musky, rocks and slop. Bring it all on! So yeah, I recognize that Big Game isn't perfect, but when it comes to reliability and utility PER DOLLAR SPENT, there ain't NOTHING that compares. jj 3 Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted March 22, 2019 Posted March 22, 2019 I can see not paying for name or hype but not scrimping on line after all that’s invested in rods, reels, boats and time. 4 Quote

Stretch, sink/float, abrasion resistance, visibility & memory all matter more than it seems sometimes. Quote
Pikeman12 Posted March 22, 2019 Posted March 22, 2019 I had good luck with Cajun red, but I mainly use big game. 1 Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted March 22, 2019 Super User Posted March 22, 2019 People buy a $1,200 bow, $150 arrows, $200 sights, $125 rest, $100 stabilizer, and then ask "what's the cheapest good broadhead". Blows my mind. 1 Quote

BigTerp Posted March 22, 2019 Posted March 22, 2019 I use Yo-Zuri hybrid for the performance, but the price point is nice as well. Quote
MAN Posted March 22, 2019 Posted March 22, 2019 I have tried many many mono lines and out there and I ended up right back at Big Game. I was trying to fix something that wasn't broke. 1 Quote
jeffo21 Posted March 22, 2019 Posted March 22, 2019 I have used big game and Hi Seas mono. I bought a spool of Ande back country that I am going to try next Quote
