Sphynx Posted March 17, 2019 Posted March 17, 2019 Well...went in search of some fun this morning and in the hopes of snagging a few Crappie, but no such luck. Did manage to catch one dink on about 1/8th oz jighead paired with a curly tailed grub, never seen that before lol. No crappie and the only other bite in 5 hours was a catfish a fella near me got on a worm. 1 Quote
Sphynx Posted March 18, 2019 Author Posted March 18, 2019 First trip for me this year. I won't complain about a dink, because it's better than spending my day having caught nothing. I think it's been pretty tough sledding all winter everywhere this year. Was hoping they would be moving up to stage for pre spawn but I'd bet it's still just not quite warm enough. Threw everything I had at them today except topwater, but they weren't interested in jerkbaits, jigs, lipless cranks, spinnerbaits, squarebills, t rigs, c rigs or anything else. Still, that little bugger got the fire lit proper again for the year...I'll be going out again real soon ? Quote
airborneduckhunter Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 I hit Anacoco a few weeks ago. Caught 3, two largemouth and a crappie. Crappie came on first cast of the morning in about 5 foot of water in a suspending jerkbait. I wasn't really paying attention. I made the cast, gave a few jerks, turned my head to look at something and let it sit for a few seconds, went back to reeling, and it felt funny. Realized it was a fish, lol. decent sized bout 13". First bass came in about same water depth on a jig and craw. About a 14" fish. Third fish came later in the day in about 2-3 foot of water on a white spinnerbait. Best bass of the two at about 16". Water temp ranged from 53-57 degrees. Need to go fishing again now that the weather is trying to get better. 1 Quote
Sphynx Posted March 21, 2019 Author Posted March 21, 2019 It has been cold recently, was also from my understanding just post rainstorm. I'm going to try to get back out next time I'm home, weather dependent. The only free place I knew for sure was jammed with folk camping for the holiday. I'll probably focus on the crappie again, just because I ought to be able to get a few decent meals right from the bank this time of year. Can't wait to get out again. Quote
airborneduckhunter Posted May 6, 2019 Posted May 6, 2019 Went fishing on the 26th and again yesterday afternoon. North wind hard on the 26th. Got there early and ran to the north end to hide but no luck so ran south to rabbit island and found a good one about 4 lbs and a couple dinks. Yesterday afternoon was beautiful afternoon but only landed a couple smaller fish. First one came on a popping frog the second on a structure bug. Missed a few more and broke one off on the hook set. Weather is starting to act right. Hopefully the water will clear up some more. Still chocolate milk looking. Quote
