Acts of kindness... Where do you fall?

I'm curious about how the generous you folks on here are with the rest of the bass fishing community?  Obviously most of you are open to share ideas, successes and failures, etc.  And please keep in mind I'm talking strictly about leisure fishing, not a tournament scenario.

 

I'm thinking about the everyday little things to help a fellow angler.  Example being last year I was on the bank at community lake and I was slamming them on a Carolina rig with a sprayed grass baby brush hog.  The next guy over, maybe 20 yards away was struggling and getting more frustrated with every fish I landed.  He eventually asked what I was using, and I reached into my bag and gave him a couple plastics to drag around.  I don't know if he used them, or caught anything, but he seemed to genuinely appreciate the gesture, and it made me feel good.

 

So, I'd love to hear similar stories, or even let me know if you shove all your rods into the locker 100 yards from the ramp to hide your secret lures ? Either way, I'm glad to help a fellow angler as we are truly blessed to have the opportunity and ability to fish!

Certainly there is a brotherhood or sense of community amongst many bass anglers, and whenever I can....I freely provide information to other locals about local lures and patterns that work well

   I help other people when I can, and other people help me sometimes. I always figured that's the way life is. I don't keep score.

   Unless I'm in a friend's boat and we're skipping senkos under tree limbs. Then I keep score.   jj

When fishing from shore, I pick up any line I see as it makes us all look bad. I also take a bunch of used trees from the curbside after Christmas to dump in my retention pond; you are welcome garbage guy!

I give out plastic Zoom lizards out to people on the bank because they work so well where I fish.

I like helping new people learn. I donate stuff to kids fishing derbies or high school teams every year. I always have the open invitation to any active member on the forum who wants to experience how bad the fishing is in Kansas to come jump in the boat with me. If I catch a keeper of certain kinds of fish I'll offer them to nearby fishermen before tossing them back.

I gave an older fellow some baits one day. We were fishing a creek and had fished near each other several times and had talked some. I was catching fish better than he was. I gave him some of the baits I was using and gave him a hook to rig them with.

I donate roughly 500 hours of my time every year to my non-tournament, fishing/conservation club and its 300 members.

I am always willing to share with other anglers. Last year I was at a pond and a guy with his kids was struggling, so I gave him some zman TRDs and a few jigs for his kids. They had a lot of fun that day. 

 

And of course when fishing with buddies what's mine is theirs and vice versa.

I participate in efforts to county youth field day, local trout club youth fishing rodeo, and at my buddies club youth trout derby. Stream side, boat side or whatever you would call it, I pretty much keep to myself.

It depends on the person. If it is somebody that is humble and seems to want to learn how to fish then I will go out of my way and teach them how to fish. If it is somebody that acts like a wannabe pro then I will most likely not help them or change the subject to something that will make them want to leave.

Couple weekends ago I had to pick up a large amount of fishing line that some careless fisherman threw on the floor. Maybe he caught no fish that day and decided to throw the line out but that is no excuse for what he did since it makes all fishermen look bad to other non fishermen.

Every time I fish a tourney it's basically a donation of my $100 or $50.

Last summer I would see this kid bank fishing every time I went to a certain lake. One day when I showed up there by myself I asked if he wanted to go out on the boat. And fished with him for about 5 hrs. So I guess that counts.

Two things stand out for me just now: catching a TON of sucker/carp and giving them away to the guy next to me - which wasn't an issue, but walking up a 100 yard 30 degree incline with them (40lbs? of fish?) because he was too elderly to carry them up.

 

I fish a few places for anything not bass. So I keep one or a few extra fish to give away to the disabled or elderly shore fishing.

Of course we are all great drivers too, according to us!

 

I usually fish alone, not always by choice. I welcome anyone who comes along and I will share my spot.

I do stuff like this pretty regularly but I never give it much thought because I have an overabundance of fishing tackle. 

One time that did make me laugh though, I was fishing in a cove and another boat wasn't far away. They weren't catching anything and I was smashing them on a crankbait, fishing water that they had just covered. One of the guys started asking me some questions about the bait, etc. So I tell the guy to watch out because I was going to cast my bait into his boat so he could look at it. I do a nice little roll cast and lay it up on the deck. He exams it for a few seconds and says that he doesn't have any that looked like mine. So I told him to just cut mine off and keep it because I had more. He was really hesitant at first but then I showed him that I had plenty and it was no big deal.

I have no clue if he ended up catching anything on the crankbait or not but he was really surprised that I did that for him.
