My next move

This morning the water temp was 52, with pre-front, low pressure conditions.  South wind starting calm, but becomes a hurricane by 830. Water clarity 2 feet.  I had 4 fish on a topwater, one 7lbr and 3 smalls on 10 casts so not a bad morning.  Fishing mostly flats, bass herding shad.

So now the wind has come up- 15 gusting 25.  I am thinking the wind will help to concentrate the roaming fish on the flats.  Ordinarily I go to the jerkbait but its cloudy and I cant get bit on it.  Lipless crank, spinnerbait, chatterbait, no bites.  I completely missed this transition and do not get another bite.  

What did I miss?  Suggestions on what I might have thrown? Thanks yall.

Totally agree...Loved how that 7 lber just got tossed in nonchalantly...

 

Try pulling back to the deeper water transition and go back to your moving baits if you still think they're active. For whatever reason, I think they pulled back and shut down, no rhyme or reason, just a hunch.

So you caught fish on 40% of your cast and big ones on 10%.  I agree with your assessment,  not a bad morning. ?

 

My favorite place to go when the wind reaches hurricane levels is the boat ramp parking lot.

I would have tried looking for a more sheltered creek or cove, and if the bass weren't there then they may have shut off and moved deeper. Pre-Spawn bass can act very wacky some of the time. Your lure choice probably wasn't a big problem unless the bass did just shut down to an inactive state.

 

Like what everyone else said though, that is definitely not a bad morning if you caught a 7 pounder.

The bass were there, the shad were there.  When such a great bite ends so abruptly it just pains me I could not continue to catch them.

    I know exactly how you feel. I had always been taught that if the bite shuts off, it's the fisherman's fault. And in the river, that's pretty much true, because of all the different circumstances and species involved. But lakes are different, and it took me awhile to understand that. The only transition bait I've found is soft plastic, and that doesn't work consistently, maybe only half the time. I've just come to accept that sometimes ... BAM! ... the bite is gone.  jj
