Super User PhishLI Posted March 10, 2019 Super User Posted March 10, 2019 I saw this posted elsewhere recently: "Do yourself a favor, change the 2 bearings out that support the pinion". Does anyone have any further info? Is this a tweaking thing or a problem thing? Quote
OnthePotomac Posted March 10, 2019 Posted March 10, 2019 There is only one and it is under the spool bearing in the handle cover. By the way, it is the same bearing as the drive shaft bearing. No idea about any problems, I have three K's I fished heavily last summer. In January I did my annual strip and clean and the X ship bearings were just fine. These are not a high speed bearing as your spool bearings, just for additional pinion stability, so if any one is trying to get them to spin freely for 10 minutes it is not going to happen.? Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted March 10, 2019 Posted March 10, 2019 That’s a recurring myth to explain why those tend to get louder once the factory grease gets cleaned out. Not a bad reel just unrealistic expectations imo. 1 1 Quote

Super User JustJames Posted March 10, 2019 Super User Posted March 10, 2019 This going issue is only thing that seem to happen with most of newer Shimano mostly with X-ship. I still can’t confirm it is pinion shaft support (smaller bearing the one @OnthePotomacmentioned) or pinion gear support bearing. Daiwa win hand down in this department whenever I use Alphas SV105 the reel is super smooth like nothing on the line. I ended up getting 2 xtra set of these two bearing from Shimano and clean them along with spool bearing or when it get louder or geary. I’m gonna try just a drop of bantam oil next time (without cleaning) to see if it will improve the problem. Quote
