Hi, wondering if anybody has this rod and what are your thoughts on it? Im curious about it's lure rating and whether is can really go down to 1/4 oz or not. Is it's lower end more like 3/8? Any heavier than that and it's not really an option for me so I'm curious.

Thanks!

I throw 1/8, 3/16, even 1/10th ounce lures on my MH rod all the time with no problem. I don't have that rod but I can confirm that you can definitely throw 1/4 ounce on it.

1/10 oz lures or a 1/10 oz peice of lead with a hook and soft plastic bait that weighs over a 1/4 oz total?

1/10th oz. jigheads with a small ned rig soft plastic on the back. Still much less than 1/4 with the soft plastic on it.

You'll be surprised how much a 1/10 oz jighead and TRD will weigh.  Last time I weighed a weighed 1/10 oz weedless Shroomz head and 3 inches of a Hula Stick it came out to almost a 1/4 oz.

Which is why I do my Ned rigs on my ML (1/16-1/2) rather than my UL (1/32-1/4). I prefer to have my lure weights towards the middle of the rod's rating rather than near the top where possible.

I'll test it with no lure on it tomorrow. It depends a lot on the reel though; my Fuego will backlash if I try to cast something really light on it but I can flick that 1/10 jighead/grub out there pretty far with my Shimano SLX.

That model will be really really fast for anything under 1/2 ounce if it's anything like the Andy Montgomery Elite 7'1" skipping model.

Do you have that rod? Thinking about getting it or the same rod in the Tatula line.

I have this rod paired with a Tatula SV reel and a 3/8 oz jig is the sweet spot. It will do a 1/4 ounce. It is a great skipping and close quarters rod. Its not a jig launcher and you won't be casting 1/4 or 3/8 ounce jigs long distances very well.

Thanks for the input......wondering if the elite is really worth $50-60 more than the reg tatulas.

I like the grips on the Elites. Super sensitive despite that there is not an exposed blank at the back to the reel seat. The rod is also very light and well-balanced. Haven't used one of the regular Tatulas and don't know the specs that are different.

Hello. You think the Elite skipping rod would be ok for a frog rod? I like a shorter frog rod, and the specs look ok on paper.

Ask @YoTone. I know at one point he was using one as a frog rod. I’ve never used mine for that purpose, so I don’t know. Seems like it would work though.

I had the 7’1 model and it was a good frog rod admittedly. It would be a good dock rod like the 6’9 I have no doubt.

As luck would have it, I had a doctors appointment today 1mile from a local tackle store. I stopped in to look around and the had the Tatula 6'9" skipping rod. It was right at the front door, 3' feet from entering the store. It felt like too much of a coincidence, so I picked it up.  I asked for a discount and they did 15% off.

It's a killer rod. It has some serious back bone, but a really nice tip. Thanks for the advice @YoTone.  Looks like I'll have a nice jig rod too, when I need it.

I have been tossing a frog on this rod all summer! Haven't had any issues pulling pigs out of the pads and slop.

I wanted a shorter frog rod and this worked perfect.

Hello everyone, what is the rod’s weight of the Elite 6”9HF? I haven the 7”1 version, and it’s a little too heavy for me. I might want to exchange to the 6”9

Also interested in the weight
