Jon boat stability..

I'm buying a 2003 G3 1436 jon boat and all these conversion stories have given me the itch to customize my own. My only concern is stability. If I install a casting deck, is standing comfortably and safely a real option? How about with two anglers in the boat? I'm 5'9 200 and my buddy is 6'3'' 240.

I also may have the option of purchasing a 14' v-hull instead. Would this be significantly more stable?

With all the conversions on this board I figure this would be about the best place to find out. Thanks!

The V hull will be significantly LESS stable with the stated LOAD. You should find out the weight capacity of the boat including batteries, tackle, motor/s and persons to determine the suitability.

Its a tradeoff....

Build the decks high and it isnt the most stable in the world but you have storage.

Build the decks low, its more stable but you have virtually no storage.

Remember your gonna have:

A gas tank, batteries, life vests, ropes, coolers, tackle.... you get my point.

Let's assume I'm going to build the decks pretty high on either the v-hull or jon boat. I've heard that v-hulls would be more stable with anglers standing inside, but i've also heard that flat bottom jon boats are more stable. so i'm not sure which to believe.

from what i understand, the flat bottom is more stable with high decks and in general. v bottom is smoother ride in rough water.
