flbassmaster Posted March 8, 2019 Posted March 8, 2019 What do you guys/gals think of these popular youtube fisher men doing these outrages things to catch fish and also catch likes/views. It seems that they don't even enjoy fishing just doing it for the views and likes on instagram and YouTube. And pushing products they don't even use. drop your comment below. I want to know what the fishing community thinks Quote
Glaucus Posted March 8, 2019 Posted March 8, 2019 I don't care. They're making money. Not everyone actually likes their job. If they don't like fishing but found out how to profit off YouTube, who am I to judge or care? That's not to say that I don't find many of them obnoxious fools, because I do, and I wouldn't fish with them. 2 Quote
BigAngus752 Posted March 8, 2019 Posted March 8, 2019 American society has become so inoculated to violence and drama that it takes "over-the-top" behavior to attract attention. These YouTubers that you speak of aren't sportsman and the fact that their behavior is aligned with the sport of fishing is just incidental. They are only seeking attention. I doubt they care much about the subject matter. Their videos definitely aren't geared toward any of us. I actively seek out Gary Klein, Greg Hackney, and our favorite @Glenn when I want to watch a video of someone that truly has a passion not only for fishing but also for teaching. 3 Quote

flbassmaster Posted March 8, 2019 Author Posted March 8, 2019 yes, I've been hearing Greg hackney videos are great! I will definitely check those out. I feel the same way. Very well said! Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted March 8, 2019 Super User Posted March 8, 2019 Pretty simple, if I don't like the movie I get up and walk out of the theater. 2 Quote

I want to know what the fishing community thinks When I started fishing last year one thing that motivated me were videos on Youtube. I quickly bored of the hyper kids, but at the same time the enthusiasm some of them show made me excited to fish. Some of them do enjoy fishing. Greg Blanchard has an excellent kayak fishing channel. He fishes in almost every video, whether he catches or not, and not much BS. I don't watch vlogs, gawd how boring. I like watching some of the fishing contests and challenges, but not all of it. Mainly who can catch the most fish, stuff like that. I'm not interested in watching the Googans play basketball though. Roland Martin has a Youtube channel - how awesome is that? I can watch him not fish, he's entertaining no matter what. He fishes from his Jon Boat sometimes with a homemade plywood deck and sitting on an ice chest lol. Love it! I even have a channel, along the lines of "I'm learning to fish, come laugh at/with me" I just think it's fun and a good use for my otherwise unused GoPro. Plus I want my greatest catches on video, screw photos! Quote
Super User MIbassyaker Posted March 8, 2019 Super User Posted March 8, 2019 Look. You'll drive yourself crazy if you waste time worrying about everybody else's bad taste. I care about stupid youtube antics if there is some actual, material harm being caused. And if not, I just shrug and turn elsewhere for my entertainment. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 8, 2019 Global Moderator Posted March 8, 2019 They're terrible, I want to watch someone actually fishing. I've seen fish hit cigarette butts floating on the surface of the water. They'll eat anything if you fished it long enough but did you learn anything or really accomplish anything? Easy solution, I don't watch those channels. 2 Quote
Russ E Posted March 9, 2019 Posted March 9, 2019 In my opinion, they are a waste of time. No different than someone doing a reel review and all he does is open the box and hold it in front of the camera. 2 Quote
Super User NYWayfarer Posted March 9, 2019 Super User Posted March 9, 2019 I’d rather watch a YouTube video of someone fishing with a chicken nugget than Greys Anatomy. My wife definitely does not agree. 1 1 Quote

Or 5 stars and a written review that says, “I just got my rod/reel/lure delivered by UPS and it looks awesome! Can’t wait to try is out!” So 5 stars for how it looks sitting on your kitchen table. Very helpful. 3 1 Quote

Super User Mobasser Posted March 9, 2019 Super User Posted March 9, 2019 I never watch this stuff. It's a big waste of time 1 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted March 9, 2019 Super User Posted March 9, 2019 I don't watch stuff like that. There are better things to watch on Youtube. Quote

It's a big waste of time I can’t say I’ve gotten into the you tube stuff other than instructional. Greg with Z is always a good show. One of my top three on MLF also. Unless I’m totally wrong he seems to keep it real and when he struggling he keeps a good disposition. 1 Quote

Flair is way too hyper for me but given the choice of watching him or almost any TV show, TV will lose. Some of my Favs - Greg Blanchard - Roland Martin - Scott Martin when he's actually fishing and not blabbing. He's getting worse lately. - Some even smaller local channels. - Brendan Miller. Quirky funny kid who loves to fish. - Tactical Bassin'. Almost too much information - I space out sometimes. 2 Quote
HenryPF Posted March 10, 2019 Posted March 10, 2019 I only fish in the united states and lately I have been watching Japanese fishing videos like this guy: Kakapon Supopon and like this guy 突撃!ヨネスケのツリタビch You never know what the guy(s) are going to catch and they seems super excited to catch anything (as they is most likely going to eat it too). I speak, read or understand no japanese, i just stumbled upon it one day cruising youtube. I do find their choice of gear interesting - the collapsible nets, buckets, and that super long net they all seem to have. This is where I learned that the puffer fish is basically the bluegill of the saltwater. I could care less about the "american youtube fishing stars" cept the kids who seem to have fun trying things way out of their element. The 2019 antares reel review is probably the worst video I have ever watched. Two guys catching fish and not explaining the features on the reel they are reviewing? The best videos are of a person telling a story - like Zona does, its humor, catches a fish or two and goes into some commentary. Entertainment and somewhat informative. I cannot stand the "I just bought a ton of stuff from tacklewarehouse and lets open it on video" ones. I know when my order comes in, I know exactly what I ordered. I don't know why these guys are acting all surprised. Quote
Super User Catt Posted March 10, 2019 Super User Posted March 10, 2019 I've been around computers (cell phones are computers) since MS-DOS & it aint changed. Put s_it in ya get s_it out! ? 1 Quote
Lead Head Posted March 10, 2019 Posted March 10, 2019 Only YouTube fishing channel I watch is milliken fishing. Guy seems real down to earth and honest. He puts out so many videos they can be hit or miss but are fun and informative most of the time. Currently he is doing lots of ice fishing stuff that is of very little interest to me but it's what he has to work with now so whatever. I checked out the googans... not for me. Quote

It’s a bit annoying. You don’t learn much. He just tells you which rod to buy and what polish to use on your boat. He used to also push okuma reels and rods but now he fishing favorite rods and shminao reels. They just go to where the money is at. Quote
