I read that the Fenwick HMG has Fuji alconite guides. I don’t have experience with either rod though.

You are correct on that. Still like the BPS but that makes the Fenwick a good choice.

I’m a really big fan. I have a 6’8 MH and love it, it’s a great quality rod with good sensitivity. I held the larger size rods as well from them and they were all light

How is the balance?

It’s really nice, not tip heavy in the slightest. I have mine paired with a Revo ALX and it balances great even with that light of a reel. From handling the longer rods in store it seemed they were balanced as well. With out the reel on, they seem to balance right between the reel seat and the Powell label

I would think it would  balance just fine. I placed one of my Revo SX ( 3rd gen) on and it balanced well, so you should be good

powell endurance vs daiwa tatula

My Powell Max3D 714 spinning rod is more sensitive than my OG Tatula rods (all casting Tatulas though), IMO. Not sure about the Endurance though. Sorry, may not be helpful and further put more questions into your mind! :D

Now that’s tough. I don’t think you can go wrong either way. Honestly if it were me, I’d pick based on which one has a rod that in the size, power, action, etc that you are looking for. You won’t be disappointed with either rod

Because of this thread and after speaking to a few people, I picked up a 2 Daiwa Tatulas (Not OGs).  1 spinning and 1 casting.  Curious to see how they compare to the Fury’s I have.

what do you guys think of the Powell endurance

I have the older 1st gen 723 (1/4 to 3/4oz) and the newer 765cf (3/8 to 3oz) utility rod. I love them both, the reel seat is better on the newer gen rods because the threads aren't exposed anymore.

They are both super light, sensitive and balanced. I got the balance down with various reels without problems. Exsence DC for the 765 and almost anything for the 723.

If I had to pick 1, Id choose the 765 over the 723 since I can fish a bigger variety of baits and have more fishing options with it, even tho the 723 is lighter and more balanced.

The Tatula rod looks and feels nice. Held one at DSG in 7'3" MH. It's a rod I could see myself purchasing, especially under retail online.

Here comes a new challenger: I recently received an iRod 754 Fred's Magic Stick (1/2oz to 2oz) under retail and I'm like why did I wait so many years. Caught some good fish on it on the frog and swim jig. Can't wait to fish it more.

Would love to try this rod, but can't justify it.  I have an OG Tatula 7'4" frog rod I keep in Florida.  An ALX Toadface for home, but don't plan on limiting it to just toads and frogs.  However.....I know me...and if a good enough deal came up on one I might wind up with a Magic Stick anyway.  :teeth:

There is probably a deal somewhere with the classic, but I was too impatient to wait for a sale. Ebay had 15% off yesterday, no irods, but they did have a 7ft2 heavy Expride which was $208 shipped.

I got my irod from Susquehanna Fishing Tackle who I bought from for the 1st time. Signed up for their newsletter and got 10% off. No problems and the shipping was fast.

I was able to cast 1/4 swimjigs without problems as well as bullet weighted soft plastics. I fish different reels on it with 30-50lb braid usually. The tip is nice. I like that I can throw tons of stuff on it, from what is listed to swimbaits. It's funny tho, the site write up lists a bunch of techniques for it, but the ones on the rod are different. It works for all of them. Quite happy with that purchase from TWH last July 4th sale. I opted for 1 day shipping so that cut into the savings.

I find the new Tatula rods to be pretty stiff. The fit and finish is fantastic, per usual with Daiwa, but I was a little disappointed in the tips. Seemed a little overpowered for their ratings.

There's an embarrassment or riches for amazing rod lines for under $150. From my personal experience, I don't think you can go wrong with the Mojo Bass, Fury or the new Shimano Curado line.

Don't sleep on the new Curados. They are quite nice for the price.

I got to fish my two new Tatulas (not OG) on a few occasions and absolutely love them so far.  They were purchased because of this thread.  I have the 6’10 MH casting and 6’10 M spinning.  Only complaint is that I prefer split grips for my casting rods but no biggie.  I haven’t caught a fish on them yet but for $100, the casting rod is amazing to me.  Still on sale too.

Also, I initially thought the guides on the casting Tatula was too small for a leader knot but have not had any problems.

If you can find one on sale to get it under $150, the Phenix M1 MXS72M is still the rod that has caught more fish than all my other rods combined.  As a shore guy I often only want to just bring one rod, and this rod does most everything I need except for throwing heavy stuff.

I know this is an old topic. But with that said I figured I’d chime in since I’ve used and own[ed] at least two of the rod brands mentioned. Price point to value I have to say that Powell brings an absolute bang-for-your-buck rod to the table at their price points for their different series of rods. There is no comparison (in my opinion) from a  Dobyns Fury to a Powell Endurance (I’ve owned both). The Endurance blows it out of the water. Granted they are different in value price points but even then the Inferno beats the Fury as well. I do like Dobyns but have really come to enjoy all the Powells I own and I just picked up another Powell on the online Christmas sale at the most popular online tackle retailer lol. Hopefully the 765 MMH Fast action Endurance I just ordered will be exactly what I’m looking for.

Totally agree about the tips on the tatulas
