Looking for the best rod under $150

I have been looking at adding another casting rod to my arsenal and have I hard time deciding between the St Croix mojo bass, the Daiwa tatula, Dobyns fury, and possibly the ark sniper

Take a look at the carbonlite 2.0 from bps also. To me it feels better In My hand then any other rod I’ve held. Fishes great also. Definitely worth taking a look at. Balance is amazing right on the nut. They are $120 but go on sale quite a bit.

I’m a really big fan of the last gen Tatula rod, I would assume the new rod performs similarly. Not to throw more rods into the mix, but if you get a chance to hold a Powell endurance or one of the new Ike rods I think you’d be pleased

It really depends on what you need and what’s on sale. I personally own the st croix mojo bass rods. I like them a lot. The spinning rods are garbage but the casting rods are solid. I really like the glass cranking rods in that line up.

I have 6’6”and 7’. Can’t really comment on that length. But last time I was there a guy was buying two more in that length. Said he had four or five already. I know that don’t mean much but we were talking about how much we liked them.

Based on all the positives about Dobyns I went with the Fury series, I now have 4, the reason is a decent rod that fit into my budget, I bought from TW(BlackFriday) and DSG (with Coupons)

The Daiwa Tatula rods are outstanding rods for the price point...

I'd put the Elite Tech Smallmouth at the top if Fenwick was still making them.  I feel the original Tatula rods were a terrific buy.  Especially since I never paid more than $100 for any of mine.

 

The Ark Sniper gets good reviews for the most part.  Anytime you can get a $200 rod for $130 it is worth taking a long look at it.  I picked up the Sniper 6'10" MF from TW.  Not put a reel on it yet, but the reel seat feels good just handling it.

 

The Fury and Mojo are popular rods around here.  I don't know anything about the new Endurance, but I am a fan of the one older model I have.

Brandon, honestly I've never fished a fury, but have whipped them around a few times at Cabelas.  They get quite a bit of praise so I don't think you'd go wrong with one.  They just didn't really win me over and I don't have a good reason to offer.

 

The Diawa Tatula on the other hand, I have a bit of experience with.  The original models IMO were in a class of their own.  They retail for about $150 but can be had on Ebay for $100 if you get lucky.  I actually found one at Tractor Supply's website believe it or not.  Best $100 rod I have used and I've used a few.  Light, crisp, and very sensitive for the price.  The 7'2" Med Heavy "Regular" (basically a fast side of moderate- fast, ah heck, it's a fast action) is phenomenal.

 

I owned the new version with full cork handle, and while I only fished it for 5 hours, I was impressed.  The only, and I mean only reason I didn't keep it was the micro guides.  If you use braid to leader, the newer version ain't for you.  I actually considered going to flouro (which I do not care for) just so I could keep this rod.  

 

If you can get a Tatula for close to $100, I recommend you jump on it.

The Tatula is lighter and more sensitive than the Fury. I have both

I have a few Daiwa Tatulas (6'10" MH'F, glass 7' M/R, glass 7'2" MH/R), St. Croix Mojo Bass (topwater and spinnerbait) and a Dobyns Sierra 704C. The Dobyns is nice because it has a lot of tip to it. The Tatula 6'10" MH/F is the most sensitive of the bunch, and the Mojo Bass are the lightest. All of them are nice rods.

Bassproshop carbonlite 2.0 are great rods at their price point that people seem to overlook a lot.  Another great rod that gets overlooked a lot of times in the same price point are the Okuma EVX rods.  Both great rods in the 120 price range.  I love the Duckett micro magic pro rods.  To me they are one of the best performing best filling rods in the 160 price range.  I will say though.  Duckett seems to have quality control problems, but their warranties are good.  The St Croix premier rods, and Dobyns Fury rods are also really good rods.  You will always get quality with St Croix.  They never seem to miss.  At least in my opinion they dont.

Does the Tatula (not XT) have split grips or full cork?  I am interested in these rods but I want to be sure that I am looking at the correct model.

The older 'OG' Tatula is black and gold and has split grips with black foam (getting tough to find them). The new version has full cork handle.

IMO the old tatula blows away everything in its price class in terms of sensitivity, and the new one uses the same blank.  I ended up selling mine though because the reel seat was not comfortable to me at all. The new one uses a different reel seat I believe though.
