I’m gonna be picking up a new combo here soon specifically for spinnerbaits jigs and Texas Rigs and didn’t know what to get so i came on here and found what seems to be the perfect rod which is the Dobyns Fury 703c because it’s made for exactly what I need it for and I was wondering what reel I should put on it around the 120 mark is my budget for the reel and also I was wondering whats you guys think of the rod also how sensitive is it? Thank you

Edit-As stated below the reel with likely be a tatula 100 but I’m still open to suggestions thank you guys for helping.

Welcome to the forum. If you plan on a rod for single hook applications up to 1/2 ounce I would suggest you move up to the 704C. Sensitivity in it's price point is as good as anything on the market. You will have the tip for casting and the power to drive the larger hook home.  That rod will balance well with a number of reels.  If you shop hard the newer Diawa Tatula 100 can be had for 120.00 and it's an excellent reel in it's price point.  You can save a few bucks and get a Fuego for far less. I'm impressed with my Tat 100.  Good stuff. If you are a Shimano guy, the SLX is getting good comments. If it's Lews, the LSF Tournament MB is another great option.

On the 704c it’s say 1/4 to 1oz is there a reason I shouldn’t throw past a 1/2oz? And also could I still throw flukes on it also thanks for the reply and I’ve also heard great things on the tatula so I’ll probably get that if I can find it

I was also looking at the st Croix mojo bass casting rods 7’1’’ MH

its 3/8 -1oz because I was looking at another post and it looked like the Dobyns Rods were not that we’ll put together but I do however like the reel that you suggested look up more reviews and it looks great

Dobyns rods are very well put together rods, I haven't had any issues with mine. St Croixs are nice rods and a lot of people love them but personally I'm not a fan of the balance and feel. Another option you should consider is getting the Slx combo, it's a great deal.if you do go this route dont forget to sign up for their newsletter, this give you an additional 10% offf.

Dobyns indicates the "range" of bait weights on all their rods and the middle of that range is the targeted "sweet spot." Thus the targeted sweet spot for the 704 is 1/2 ounce. The 704 performs at it's best at that weight and generally within a 1/4 ounce either side of the sweet spot, so 3/8 to 5/8 is the optimum range however the rod will handle 1/4 and up to 1 ounce, but not optimally.

As far as Dobyns not being put together well,  my experience is just the opposite. Fit and finish on the dozens of Dobyns rods I have examined and or own/owned as been exceptional.  If you are entertaining a St Croix Mojo, you might want to look at the BASS X series.  I'm sure others will chime in in time.

I clarified in that thread that after testing it appears Pflueger was the culprit to the problem. Also, the broken guide and bent rod were done in shipping and storage, which isn't Dobyns fault.

My Legalis reels are arriving in about an hour and I will post pictures of them on the rods in that thread.

Edit - I quoted the wrong post.

Thank you for clearing that up for me because I hadn’t seen your comment on the other post

Ok awesome thanks and after everyone’s comment that Dobyns are great and it was other companies fault I think I’ll get there rod 704c cause I do like the stiffer back bone

also on the 704c do you think I could still throw flukes on it? Like I could on the 703c  thanks

7' 3" is a sweet spot for me for that all a rounder versatile stick for that power and bait range...I have 1 Sierra 734 and 2 Champ XP 734c...I prefer the heavy F 1/4-1oz, I use them for a very wide range of baits/techniques...like how it loads and a bit more distance with the added few inches...

733c better for flukes if weightless rigged...if using a keel weighted hook/or small bullet weight in front of fluke 734 will work...733c is the better tool for flukes though/lighter weightless stuff...but depends where your tossing that fluke, may need that stick with a big more backbone/power even of it takes it bit more to toss it and not optimal...reel also comes into play with ability to throw not optimal baits on said stick...

You seemed to be pointed toward a 7 footer so I just offered my thoughts as to power in that length.  I would not hesitate to go 734.  I have four of them. It's the most versatile model Dobyns manufactures and is offered in four different series. Yes it will cast a fluke.;)

Ok thank you for the info so Im going to go ahead and get the 734c because as you said it’s seems very versatile I’ll probably get another rod to throw flukes but on this rod I’ll be able to use spinnerbaits, jigs,Texas rigs, and Carolina rigs right?
