All around rod action?

Good morning everyone looking to get a new rod something kinda "all around" either the dobyns 703c or falcon Bucoo going to go with MH but can't decide if I should go with moderate fast or fast action. Which action is more so "all around"

Both’s fast action leans more towards mod than xf. You’ll be fine with fast. If you fish lures in the 3/8 - 1/2 oz range in cover you may want to bump up to a 4 power Dobyns and heavy Falcon.

Best not to think of a Dobyns 3 power rod as medium heavy.  It will screw up your perception of rod power.  3 power Dobyns is more of a medium power, moderate fast action.  IMO too light for an all purpose rod.

 

I own a Falcon Bucoo SR 7 foot med heavy, and it is on the lighter side of its rating also.  Outstanding rod though.  It is almost an all purpose-ish rod, but a tad light.

 

If you want a dobyns, go 734 (what they call "heavy power")

 

BTW mod fast is the most versatile action IMO.

All around I use a moderate ML or if available L graphite composite. But sometimes, I’ll use a fast M to MH.

 

Once you get used to using the part of the rod between the mid section of the rod to the reel seat to keep pressure on the fish, so the drag wears them out, instead of using the backbone to lift them through the water or lift them out of the water, the super light action rods become way more powerful than they seem.

Would not be my choice.  Moderate for lighter cranks, moderate or moderate fast for the big boys.

But rod power counts for something.  A medium power fast action?  Okay, you could crank with it.  A med heavy?  Ummm, maybe if it's a dobyns, or even some of the Bucoo rods from Falcon.  They tend to run a tad light on power also.

 

The Falcon Bucoo Trapcaster would be a nice all around rod, but might be a tad light for the bigger hook baits.  Definitely shouldn't throw a 1/2 oz jig on it.
