I picked up a Dobyns FR734C heavy rod and a Okuma stratus VI Reel, and it seems to fit weird into the slot the slot near the handle of the rod.  But it seems like pressure from tightening it pushes it nice and snug into the slot.  Are baitcasters not universal on all types of rods or is this the way its suppose to fit?

Does this look right?

Tough to tell from the pic, but looks normal from what I see.  Reels and rods should fit universally.  Have you tried the reel on a different rod and Visa versa?

Yes I have and it fit fine on other but not on the rod, I’m just going to get a different reel.

Some reels have slightly different size reel feet, as long as it is snug and doesn't move it should be fine.

The screw should screw down more, the reel just isn’t compatible with this rod.

It would screw down more if the reel foot was smaller, that doesn't necessarily mean it is a bad fit and won't work.

Looks fine to me. Snug it up and go catch some giants!!! The latest rendition of the Fuji seats the locking nut is a hair taller than previous gens. I have some Sierras from when they launched and 1 purchased a month ago. I instantly noticed the nut is different. It’s a Fuji thing not Dobyns. Plus that’s arguably the most widely used reel seat on the market.

Tight Lines!
