There is all this fuss about alternative energy sources coupled with the rising gas prices and the impending truth that there is a limited supply of the stuff on the planet.  Inovations have been made in hydrogen powered cars and whatnot, but what about boats?  Will there be alternative fuels for boats soon?  I haven't heard anything about it, have you?

Saw a show featuring a company out of Australia called EngineAir R&D that developed a rotary air engine.  Apparently the motor only needs 1psi to overcome friction so most of the compressed air will go to power and isn't lost to heat and such.  It was developed for fork lifts and carts in gigantic produce warehouses to keep indoor air quality in check.  Only time before it hits the market.  I think they stated that a normal "charge" will last for several hours.  But I don't know what kind of air consumption or at what pressure you would need to run it.

They were invented thousands of years before the outboard, are usually four to five feet long and are called paddles.

thats too much like work! :)

Actually I like to paddle some. Wish I had a canoe or kayak just to go paddling sometimes. Don't like em for fishing though.

An engine is an engine, if it can run a car it could run a boat. T

I'm offsetting future global cooling by making a huge carbon foot print now, there is no replacing displacement! :)

Nevertheless, I am sure one of those hydrogen engines used by BMW could be modified to be used as an outboard, plus the exhaust is water!!

I fish out of a 15ft canoe.  I'm about to upgrade it with oars :)
