Robert Smith Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 I have a question....I am new to electronics so I need a dummies version or walk through in understanding how to find and use the new base map option on my unit..... I have the helix 7 di chirp gps g2n mounted on the bow and helix 7 si chirp gps g2n on the console.they r linked together along with the 360 transducer mounted to the trolling motor...I recently did the updated software along with base maps. The question I have is how do I find my lake on there....I have not messed around to much with as I am not to smart with electronics and don't want to screw stuff up....I would like a walk through as to how to find and navigate to start understanding my local lake more.....the lake is one of the lakes in the online lake list on there web site but I am not sure how to find it on my unit.....I would aprriciate any help possible help because as of now I have a crap load of money in Christmas lights on my boat......screen shots would be great to..... Super User Jig Man Posted March 5, 2019 Super User Posted March 5, 2019 My best advice to you is down load the helix manual. If you have Adobe Acrobat Reader you can use it to navigate the manual. If not then down load the free version then down load the manual. I have a new Solix with I pilot link. So far I have downloaded 3 manuals and take my computer to the garage so I can look something up and then get hands on experience. Quote
redmexican5081 Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 Turning on the unit while connected to GPS should locate you on the screen. Use the + and - keys to zoom in and out. Typical default is North up on the charts. Navigate to your lake with the directional pad following the route you would use to get there driving. Quote
Robert Smith Posted March 6, 2019 Author Posted March 6, 2019 Thank you for the replies......it went straight to the lake but I didn't know if that was auto chart live because when I zoomed in it was acting like it was making contour lines as I trolled around.... It had started raining on me so I didn't have a lot of time to mess around with it to see if that was auto live or the new base maps.... Quote
junyer357 Posted March 7, 2019 Posted March 7, 2019 If you were on the lake trolling around, it was not contour lines. That was your track, showing whwre the boat had been. You can turn that off, where it wont show on screen. Unless you have a map card in, you would be in base maps most likely. My advise is to turn it on in simulation mode in the garage, and zoom out on maps and find you local lake and look around. Go to other screens and play with settings and just play with it and learn about it. Dont worry about if you screw up a setting. You can always go back to default settings, which resets any changes you make back to how it was in factory. Quote
Robert Smith Posted March 8, 2019 Author Posted March 8, 2019 Thank you for the replies......I got some updated info........the updated software that I received is apparently not the most recent software and hummingbird is resolving this for me now.....after I default reset my unit which is required to do after the new software is installed but i wasn't aware of this until i contacted them, the si which is on the console is working great....I was actually able to see my bait going down, jigging at different depths, fish arches on 2 d sonar and bait balls and fish on side image.....very impressed.....now when i dropped trolling motor and started playing around with di which is what is mounted on bow.....2d sonar would barely show bottom nothing else but a white screen.....what I was seeing on console would not show anything on bow......I tried every setting possible.....same results on di.....360 would show the bait balls so I came home and called humminbird and apparently the transducer that came with the unit is designed to go on the transome and not the trolling motor.... They also are going to send me the correct transducer and they said that would correct my issue due to the extra shielding built in to control interference.... My question is do any of you ever or have ever experienced any of this and do u fill this is the problem.... They did tell me hat if the transducer does not resolve the issue that I would need to send it back and allow them to check unit.....I was hoping I might get some advice on things to check before I do.....whwn trouble shooting over the phone I did notice that when trying to select the correct transducer in the menu that di83/200 was not ever an option until I got home and default reset again......could that not being on the correct setting also cause the unit not to read correctly....sorry for the dumb to electronics but I have not ever had electronics and trying to learn.......
