ElbeNotRiver Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 Guys, I need opinions from you, the most experienced and professional bass fishing sportsmen in the Earth! The thing is, recently in a Chinese fishing forum, a dude coaches me that "There is an universal lure(not only for bass) but I wont tell you what it is, if u have no idea what it is, u r the noob." He was so confident and proud although every single bass he got was from high density bass farm(b/c China does not have native black bass u know). In my opinion, choosing the lure according to various conditions should be a common sense right? What do u guys think? Is an universal lure that ppl can use in every conditions exists? Lots of thanks! 1 Quote
Super User scaleface Posted March 5, 2019 Super User Posted March 5, 2019 plastic worm having maximum active and catches bass in each cast . 4 3 Quote
bagofdonuts Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 a jig. its hard to think of a situation where it just wouldn't work. might not always be the best choice for all situations, but it'll probably work. I always have one tied on in the boat, can't say that about any other technique. 1 Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted March 5, 2019 Super User Posted March 5, 2019 Jigs and plastic worms are universal. Bass never "get use" to them. 4 Quote
Super User Spankey Posted March 5, 2019 Super User Posted March 5, 2019 I would think condition would dictate what that lure might be. I would think there would still be a difference of opinions regardless of skill and experience level. I’m no professional and never professed to be. Tell us what the lure is, what’s the big deal. 3” grub 2 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted March 5, 2019 Super User Posted March 5, 2019 Hello and Welcome to Bass Resouce ~ I have never fished a high-density farm pond in China however, it has been my experience, that while there are a few lures that are very versatile, none work all the time on every lake & for every species. btw isn't there a bait money in China ? ratherbfishin1 Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 Like @A-Jay said there really isn't one lure that will always work and catch fish. You are going to have to change it up depending on the conditions. With this said, I do feel like the plastic worm is the MOST universal lure. Welcome to the forum though! Quote
fin Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 Flukes are pretty versatile, but I wouldn't say they catch fish in every situation. You can fish a fluke topwater, on the bottom or in the middle. There aren't many other baits you can do that with. Quote
FCPhil Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 There is no lure that is the best in every all conditions. Otherwise it is the only lure people would use. Every lure works somewhat in any conditions, some being more adaptable than others. Weightless worms and jerkbaits work well in a lot of situations. I think this guy your talking to is missing the mark. Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted March 5, 2019 Super User Posted March 5, 2019 Worden's Rooster Tail. Works on all species. Quote
Caliyak Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 Stick bait worm, jig, 3 inch Swim bait Here in California, where we don't see a hard winter. Quote
OCdockskipper Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 Helicopter Lure, although it must be used with a Popeil Pocket Fisherman for maximum efficiency. 2 5 Quote
Super User NYWayfarer Posted March 5, 2019 Super User Posted March 5, 2019 A stick worm type bait (Senko, Dinger, Shim E Stick, Stik-O, etc.) I would say is universal. Quote
Russ E Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 If you ask a Midwest finesse fisherman, some variation of the Ned Rig, works for every situation. there are several local fishermen that use nothing else. If you want to catch numbers, it is a hard bait to beat. I personally only use it when the fish are not biting. While it will attract big fish, there are often better baits for that. 1 Quote
RSmall Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 I have the best luck around here with a 5" red shad colored Yum Dinger but I'd hardly call it "universal". Quote
MAN Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 Hello Zhiyuan Shi, I have fished stock ponds throughout China and have never seen a consistent artificial bait thrown. If I had to pick the top one I have seen it will be a standard grub on a jighead. Here in the states in my opinion a fluke can be used in every water body and across multiple fish species both salt and fresh. By the way...which China fishing forum are you on? 1 Quote

Super User jimmyjoe Posted March 5, 2019 Super User Posted March 5, 2019 Sounds like someone wanted to get into someone else's' head, that's all. Usually, what someone refuses to tell is what someone doesn't know. jj Quote
Super User scaleface Posted March 5, 2019 Super User Posted March 5, 2019 All right I'll get serious here . The closest thing to a universal lure that catches all species of game fish would be a jig . From tiny panfish jigs to large saltt water jigs they catch about everything that swims . 1 Quote
