Yo-Zuri 3DB Pencil

I've never used one of Yo-Zuri's hardbaits. The price point is quite affordable compared to others, yet the quality and aesthetics seem very high end! What are your thoughts on this particular topwater walking lure?

 

I have something of a love affair with the Super Spook Jr, based soley on the success I've had with it. That being said, I'm a sucker for new tackle (aren't we all?!) and would like to give them shot if they're well recommended!

I really like the cupped face, slight curve to the body, and the color selections.

 

I mainly fish for Smallmouth in clear, shallow rivers and frequently catch Pike and Largemouth.

 

Any input on the lure, favorite colors, seasonal patterns, etc are much appreciated.

Indeed, the pencil very similar in size and profile the Super Spook Jr, a but a bit heavier, and with better hooks. Well-balanced, easy to walk, and the prism finishes are gorgeous -- I like the Prism Ayu, which is a great clear-water color. I don't remember catching any pike on it, but I'm sure it will hold up.

I was just looking at buying the Pencil a few minutes ago, but passed (too much in cart already).  I have had good luck with a couple other lures in the 3DB line.  I am a fan of their finish as well.  Seem to be a good value to me.

It’s a very nice lure and has great hardware. It has a loud single knocking sound as you walk it. If you want that type of sound I recommend it.

It's a great bait that walks nicely and has a good clack, clack sound when walked. There's a reason the bone color is always sold out on TW. I've had good success with them for smallmouth, largemouth, and spots as well as white bass and wipers. They come with good quality hardware too, which is a nice bonus. 

 

I'd also echo that the 3DB prop is a great bait worth checking out too.

I love the Ghost Prisim shad color.  Easy to walk and the fish love it.  Haven’t had  any luck with the bone color though.

Thanks for all the responses so far, guys. I came into a Gander Outdoors gift card that I plan to use on a couple Yo-Zuri baits... Just waiting for some more color options to get out up!!

I don't own one... having said that, it's counter-intuitive to me that a bait meant to glide would have ribs designed into its belly.

Fair enough and I can see the thought process.

Tactical Bassin has made some intriguing videos about cupped and ribbed walking lures.

Long story short: a combination of the subtle walk-the-dog motion and the shorter movements from ribs/cup equates to more time in the strike zone for spawning and/or cold water bass that are less willing to chase a bait. 

 

Personally, I'm just interested because of the quality and the color selections!
