I made an offer on a KK Assassin on the KK ebay storefront. To my surprise my offer was accepted and that is commitment to purchase. My question is what is the best starting point to set the centrifugal drag and spool setting. Hopefully I am using the right terminology.

Centrifugal brake= half of them on, half of them off. I go every other brake.

Spool tension= tighten just to the point there is no side to side wobble.

Magnetic brake in the middle.

You can adjust from there, but that is where I usually start, with all centrifugal brake reels.

I typically do every reel I own in the same manner.  Turn centrifugal and magnetic brakes off.  Loosen spool tension.  Tie on whatever it is that I want to cast.  Release the spool and then tighten the spool tension knob to control the drop of the bait to whatever it is I prefer.   Set two of the centrifugal brakes on, set the magnetic braking to about half, make a few controlled casts and dial it in from there.

Only reels that I adjust cast control knob,, are magnetic brake only reels like the royal legend elite.

All other reels I let the 2 brakes control the cast. In my own experience using a little more centrifugal brake and less cast control will give better performance. I very seldom adjust anything on my reels once they are setup.

Doesn't matter what bait I am throwing

The only thing I adjust is the magnetic brake if it is windy.

Centrifugal brakes are spring loaded and only engage when the spool reaches a certain speed.

Centrifugal brakes 2 on 2 off (the 3 and 9 off if you think of the four brakes as a clock face)

Magnetic brakes on 7 to start. Go lower 1 click at a time each cast until you backlash then go up one from there. I find Somewhere between 3 and 5 to be a sweet spot for me when casting lures like a Whopper Plopper 90

After you have your bait dropping your desired speed. Turn those centrifugal brakes to 3 or 4. Then the mags on to about 7

KastKing spools seem to spin really fast to me, so I set them a little tighter starting out until I get comfortable with them, and then back them off a little. Centrifugal brakes I go every other one, spool tension set so the bait drops slowly and the spool stops immediately when the bait touches the ground.

I just received the reel today I set the centrifugal brake at 4 and the magnetic brake at 7. Spool set till I just hear it click when moving back and forth. Will test then make necessary adjustments. Anything other suggestions or tips just chime in.

Thanks

BTW This model does not have the pins as mentioned in some of the posts, it has the dial from 0-6 for the centrifugal brake.

The dial does the same thing as the pins. There should be 6 brakes. I usually run mine on 3.

I opened mine up after reading this, I have the dial as well and it is set on 3. Sorry for the misinformation. my previous directions were for the brakes on my KK Whitemax.

I think I have mine set to all on, no magnetic.  Spool tension is fairly loose.  Much of this depends on ability, casting style, and equipment used.  It's best to go heavy on tension and brakes, and dial them back to your ability.

I will have to play with the settings since I am the backlash king
