Super User A-Jay Posted March 2, 2019 Super User Posted March 2, 2019 Hoping to capitalize on the Four-time Bassmaster Classic champion, Rick Clunn Luck E Strike Trickster Spinnerbait concept, but not having any of his "Long Blades" hanging around, (or even remotely available) I used what was on hand. Might turn out to be an ugly bastardization and a waste of a few perfectly good Mepps Spinners. Time will tell . . . Fun though. A-Jay 10 Quote

One unique thing about the Tricksters is their overly long and specially bent top wire arm. Won't be able to duplicate that with the spinnerbait frames you currently have the blades on. Quote

I will be sure to. As for the arm length - Agreed. Never been a fan of a length where there's a ton of hardware well past the hook. Might have to re-think that. Not sure what 'the magic' is, but if a longer & perhaps even bent arm is the deal, a second generation of bastardization may be called for. May even may a small investment in a few sizes of quality french blades rather than sending more spinners to their grave. More to follow. A-Jay 1 Quote

Even if it does run too quick, you can always change the French blade on the arm for a larger one. If you really want to experiment, try putting the small blade on the swivel and large blade on the arm....My my my Nice job. 1 Quote

Once I determine which blades do what - as far as size, vibration, running depth & speed needed, I may modify as needed. I can easily add weight to one if the 5 blade requires it to run true and I can always drop a bled size perhaps going with a 2 & a 3 instead of s 2 & a 4 or a 3 & a 5. I used to do a ton of this back in Mass for night time smallies - in what seems like a hundred years or another lifetime ago - actually early or mid 80's I guess. While I've had decent success with several types & sizes of blades (including Indiana), can't say for sure what's going on here @Log Catcher, as I haven't had a chance to fish them. Plan on giving them a season to impress (or depress) me. Since the Zen Master, himself prefers them, that's a ton of mad credibility in my book and enough for me to take a whack at it. A-Jay What I am finding is there are a lot that are close but not the same. Indiana blades are too wide, these are not rounded off enough in the back, those French blades you are using are too thick.
